Flight attendant says passengers should buy Toblerone if they want free upgrade
Spanish flight attendant Miguel Muñoz, currently based in Dublin, exclusively told Express.co.uk that the most effective way to get an upgrade to First Class is having a nice gesture with the crew.
Miguel recommended buying snacks or Starbucks coffee from the terminal and bringing them on board for the whole crew to enjoy during the flight. He revealed that this is a method a lot of flight attendants follow when they go on holiday or fly with other airlines.
According to the crew member, it will guarantee you an upgrade, “if there are seats available in First Class,” or “free coffee and tea” when flying with low-cost airlines, where there is no First Class.
Miguel explained: “I love it when passengers bring Toblerone or Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons from the terminal.
“I am automatically nicer to the person who had that nice gesture. The cabin chief would always offer them free coffee and tea and if there are better seats available, we will move them!”

Toblerone is a popular chocolate that a lot of people enjoy having at Christmas, and Miguel opined it is a great option “if you’re travelling this festive season”.
Toblerone normally costs around £7.99 in most World Duty Free shops at the main UK airports. The treat could save passengers hundreds of pounds as first-class tickets with major airlines are usually very expensive.
Those travelling abroad this Christmas, can simply purchase the iconic triangular chocolate at the terminal and bring it on board.

Once on the plane, “simply approach a flight attendant who is not busy, probably the one standing at the back galley, or the back of the plane,” Miguel suggested.
“Just be nice, introduce yourself, and explain you bought that for the crew to enjoy during the flight. Trust me, it will work.”
Other things that can help passengers get a free upgrade include being nice to the crew, and dressing appropriately.
