Flight attendant says the plane seat you book can help you get free upgrades
Flight attendants know pretty much everything there is to know about the cabin of commercial planes, whether that’s the safest seat to sit in or why you should never go barefoot.
When they share their flight secrets, we listen.
Well, one member of cabin crew claims that there’s even one spot on the flight where you’re more likely to be upgraded. She claims that due to having to "balance" the weight of the plane if you sit towards the back you may be bumped up to even things out.
Cierra Mist posted on her TikTok page, @cierra_mistt, about the travel hack. She even said it might get you into first class.

Cierra said: "One thing the airlines don't want you to know is that the majority of the flights we have to move people for weight and balance purposes.
"That being said, if you want to fly first class and not have to pay for it, I highly suggest that you choose sitting in the last row.
"Because if we do have to move people for weight and balance purposes, that's where the flight attendants are going to go."
In another video, she clarified that cabin crew won’t move you just to be "nice" but for safety and balance reasons only. Planes can get tail-heavy dependent on how many people are on board.
So if there are too many people at the back of the plane then some need to be moved to the front – where premium economy, business and first class seats are placed.
In the comments, people were surprised by the tip. However, not everyone was thrilled with booking the last row on the plane.
One person said: "I would never sit in the back for the chance to be in the front. I’ll pay the extra!" While another added: "I’d end up reserving a seat in the last row and being stuck with it "
But, others said that the trick had worked for them. Melissa Mock commented: "Yep. Me and sister got to fly first class, and our seats were in the back." While a woman named Jess noted: "Getting moved from the last row happened to my fiancé and I." It wasn’t the only tip that Cierra shared with her followers.
The flight attendant recommended that people book their tickets online using a VPN. A VPN – or Virtual Private Network – hides where you are accessing the internet from.
She claims that doing so can bag you cheaper flights as airlines "jack those prices" up if you’re booking from places like the USA or UK. She also noted that flights are cheapest on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – so if you want a bargain then you're best to plan on flying out mid-week.
