From Miami to Tampa, Florida has a lot to offer British expats. Express.co.uk spoke to Chris White, the founder and CEO of Ideal Homes International, to find out where Britons should search.
Chris told Express.co.uk: “Florida’s real estate industry is currently seeing massive growth and will continue to boom once the pandemic ends.
“Hence, selling a property after a few years would guarantee high returns. The best areas depend on an expat’s circumstances.
“For families looking to relocate, I would recommend Orlando and the surrounding areas.
“In the Dr Phillips suburb of Orlando, you could buy a four bedroom family house with a swimming pool for $600,000 (£447,500).
“There are also many gated communities which families might enjoy for their security, amenities and community feel but they come at a price. Expats need to budget around $10,000 (£7,457) for community taxes.
“Schooling can be free as the Orlando area has many great free public schools.”
British families who choose to relocate to Orlando will also be extremely close to the area’s many theme parks.
Chris told Express.co.uk that it’s normally simple to find renters for a buy to let property in the area.
Chris said: “For those looking to retire in Florida, then the east coast and Tampa might be a better choice.
“A more traditional feel to life here with long sandy beaches and independent shops, ideal to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life.”
Tampa is home to one of the world’s longest boardwalks, the perfect spot for retirees to watch the world go by.
Expats can also expect to enjoy great weather in Tampa with an average of 244 days with sun.
Chris told Express.co.uk: “For young professionals, especially in the tech and finance sector, Miami is the place to be in Florida.
“There has been a burst of buyers relocating from Silicon Valley and California to Miami this year as the city grows into the next great tech hub.
“Attracted by no state income tax, year round warm weather and a business-friendly environment, Miami is on the up, drawing the great and good of US enterprise.
“Within Miami, West Palm Beach has really grown in popularity.”
West Palm Beach is separated from Palm Beach by the Lake Worth lagoon and has a busy downtown of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Chris added: “We’ve seen a steady increase in British interest in relocation to the US during the pandemic.
“The restrictions on European travel have made buyers open their minds and seriously consider alternative and longer-haul destinations such as Florida.
“For anyone thinking of relocating, there is one major thing to be aware of. Health insurance.
“It can be costly, up to $700 (£522) per month for a family of four.”
