Foreign package holidays are taking off again.
More than seven in 10 of us (64%) went abroad in the 12 months to July 2019 – up from 60% the previous year and the highest since 2011.
The Holiday Habits study was carried out before the collapse of Thomas Cook last month.
But Mark Tanzer, of travel agents group Abta, said: “With seven in ten people planning a trip abroad in the year ahead, it’s clear that holidays are set to remain a spending priority.”
Favourite short-haul hotspots were Spain, the Canary and Balearic islands, Greece and Turkey, with city breaks to Germany also on the rise.
Long haul, North America and the Caribbean increased in popularity and younger travellers (age 18-34) flocked to Asia.
