France travel advice updated as terrorism threat level heightened
The British Government has updated its travel advice for France following a stabbing in Arras on October 13.
A teacher was killed and two people left seriously injured after the attack at Gambetta high school in northern France.
The British Government warned: “France has now raised its national threat level to the highest level.
“This threat level is described as ‘maximum vigilance and protection in the event of an imminent threat of a terrorist act or in the immediate aftermath of an attack’.”
British tourists have been advised to follow the advice of local authorities at all times in France.

Terrorism attacks could be indiscriminate and target places frequented by foreign nationals.
The Government highlights shopping centres, entertainment establishments, cultural events, public transport and places of worship as areas where attacks could take place.
Tourists have been advised to remain vigilant in public places as attacks could occur at any time.

The Government also issued a warning over pro-Palestinian demonstrations that have been banned in France.
It said: “There have been some pro-Palestinian demonstrations in France related to events in Israel and Gaza.
“The French Government has banned such demonstrations. French authorities have increased security around Jewish community sites.
“Stay aware of your surroundings, stay away from demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”
Over 12 million British people travel to France every year and the majority of visits are trouble free.
