France’s overcrowded tourist attractions named as Brits asked to stay away
France has asked tourists, including Britons, to stay away from some of its most overcrowded attractions.
As the world’s most visited country, some of France’s attractions are struggling to cope with the number of tourists.
According to the country’s tourism minister, 80 percent of tourists in France visit just 20 percent of the country.
A new campaign will use social media influencers to encourage tourists to stay away from the most popular sites and explore hidden gems instead.
But what are France’s most visited destinations? Unsurprisingly, the majority of the country’s busiest tourist attractions are in Paris.

Disneyland Paris topped the list with around 12 million tourists pouring into the theme park every year. The famous theme park is unlikely to start encouraging visitors to stay away so Britons are probably safe to keep holidaying at the ‘happiest place on earth’.
Paris’s Louvre Museum and home to the Mona Lisa, was second on the rankings. The popular gallery is often so busy tourists have to join a long queue just to get a photo of Mona Lisa.
While many of Paris’s galleries are busy during the summer, tourists could opt to explore a free museum such as Carnvalet instead.

Versailles Palace was third on the list. While the palace is undeniably breathtaking, France is packed with chateaus to explore and many of them aren’t even that busy.
The Eiffel Tower was fourth in the rankings and tourists can expect to join swarms of visitors if they want to admire the popular landmark.
Although the Tower could never be described as quiet, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are usually the least busy.
