From Sri Lanka to the Arctic: 35 amazing Mr & Mrs Smith hotels to book through IHG Rewards

When IHG Rewards announced a new partnership with Mr & Mrs Smith back in 2019, I didn’t get all that excited. After all, Mr & Mrs Smith is a chain of boutique luxury hotels with properties worldwide. So, I expected that even once you could earn and redeeming IHG Rewards points at select Mr & Mrs Smith properties, these stays would be well outside my budget.

However, some Mr & Mrs Smith hotels became bookable through IHG Rewards on Oct. 29, 2020. And now there are 319 Mr & Mrs Smith properties in 43 countries bookable through IHG Rewards. I recently spent time looking at each of these 319 properties. And some of these properties look amazing. Best of all, some Mr & Mrs Smith properties are surprisingly affordable.

In this guide, I’ll start by introducing what to expect at Mr & Mrs Smith properties when you book through IHG Rewards. Then I’ll discuss 35 of the most appealing Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Africa and Europe.

What to expect when booking a Mr & Mrs Smith stay through IHG Rewards

There are many types of Mr & Mrs Smith properties. For example, you can have a relaxing pub stay at The Crab & Lobster in the United Kingdom’s West Sussex. Or you can stay at a working farm at the family-run Eckington Manor in the Cotswolds. You could even stay at an active cattle station in Baines, Australia (Bullo River Station).

Only 319 Mr & Mrs Smith properties are currently bookable through IHG Rewards. But, IHG Rewards and Mr & Mrs Smith will likely continue to increase the scope of their partnership and make more properties bookable through IHG Rewards. However, it’s essential to understand that Mr & Mrs Smith properties aren’t IHG hotels. So, some IHG Rewards benefits don’t apply. But, you can expect the following when booking a Mr & Mrs Smith property through IHG Rewards:

  • Earn 10x points plus elite bonus earnings on eligible charges on your hotel room bill
  • You can book exclusive member rates
  • Reward nights count toward elite status with IHG Rewards
  • Complimentary room upgrades for Platinum Elite and Spire Elite Members at check-in based on availability
  • A Smith Extra, which IHG’s website says is “a special touch designed to enhance your stay or immerse you in your destination”

You can also redeem IHG Rewards points for some (but not all) Mr & Mrs Smith stays when you book through IHG Rewards. Due to dynamic pricing, the points cost of a particular stay will vary based on the property, when you book and when you want to visit. Especially after the recent IHG Rewards dynamic pricing devaluation, the redemption rates you’ll get at IHG hotels tend to vary greatly. But, when you redeem IHG Rewards points for a Mr & Mrs Smith stay, I found you’ll almost always get very close to 0.57 cents per point. Of course, this could change at any point.

If you have the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card or IHG® Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card, you can get a fourth night reward when you redeem IHG points for stays of four consecutive nights or longer. Using this perk can save you a significant number of points.

And, if you have IHG Rewards anniversary night certificates, you may see some Mr & Mrs Smith properties when you search for your free night. However, note that some Mr & Mrs Smith properties have minimum stay requirements. So, since you must book anniversary nights as separate one-night stays, you won’t be able to use your certificate for any properties that have a minimum stay requirement.

However, you must cancel reward night reservations at Mr & Mrs Smith properties at least 30 days before the day of check-in to get the points for the canceled reservation redeposited into your account. If you cancel within 30 days of check-in, you’ll lose the points you’d redeemed for that stay.

Finally, many Mr & Mrs Smith properties are small. For example, The Drawing Room in Wales, United Kingdom, is run by a couple and only has three rooms. And even some of the larger properties don’t have many room types bookable with IHG points. So, you may struggle to find dates with award availability at some properties.

If you’re looking to travel within the U.S., you won’t have many options. After all, there are only 13 Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the U.S. that you can currently book through IHG Rewards. But, there are also seven options in Mexico, six options in Chile and a scattering of other options.

In the below table, I list some of the most appealing options. I searched sample stays for each property until I found a stay bookable with points. However, if I didn’t find any stays bookable with points after checking at least six dates, I list a sample paid rate and note that no award nights were available.

I could easily see myself splurging for a stay at the Casa las Tortugas or Hotel Rodavento. But, each of these Mr & Mrs Smith properties made this list due to its unique location or experience.

12 Mr & Mrs Smith properties to book through IHG Rewards in Asia Pacific

There are many exceptional Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the Asia Pacific region. Most of the Asia Pacific Mr & Mrs Smith properties that you can book through IHG Rewards are in Sri Lanka (19), India (17) and Australia (10). But, there’s a scattering of properties in other countries that you can book as well.

It’s unclear when many of the Asia Pacific countries will reopen their borders to U.S. tourists. But, as long as you book a rate that allows free cancellation and cancel within the free cancellation period, you may want to plan a trip to one of the following Mr & Mrs Smith properties.

Some Mr & Mrs Smith properties in Australia, including Sal Salis and Paperbark Camp, look fantastic. But, presumably due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, I didn’t find any availability at these properties despite searching many dates.

As you can see, the above table lists the most expensive property in this guide (Shinta Mani Wild), which is likely out of reach for most of us. But the table above also contains several of the least expensive Mr & Mrs Smith properties that I found bookable through IHG Rewards. I included 28 Kothi in the above table since it’s the least costly stay I found. But, I think the slightly higher priced Samode Palace (which is also in Jaipur) is worth it if you don’t mind staying in a smoking room.

4 Mr & Mrs Smith properties to book through IHG Rewards in Africa

Most of the Mr & Mrs Smith properties bookable through IHG Rewards in Africa are in Morocco (15 total, including 13 in Marrakech) and South Africa (10). Here are some of my favorites:

Most of these properties are outside my budget. But, I choose these four to highlight because I believe they offer unique experiences. And, if you’re going to Marrakech, Morocco, I recommend searching on IHG Rewards to get a feel for your options. Many of the Mr & Mrs Smith properties in Morocco let you stay in centrally located riads. But Dar One looks pretty awesome and was consistently the least expensive option in my searches.

12 Mr & Mrs Smith properties to book through IHG Rewards in Europe

Europe contains the most significant number of Mr & Mrs Smith properties bookable through IHG Rewards. However, compared to Mr & Mrs Smith properties in other parts of the world, I find most of the European properties less compelling. But, there are still some spectacular experiences to be found. Here’s a quick listing of my favorites.

Many European Mr & Mrs Smith properties are ideal for city escapes for European couples or families. However, the Arctic Treehouse Hotel would be an epic setting to see the Northern Lights. And I love the central location and history of Hotel Can Mostatxins. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye out for Mr & Mrs Smith properties when you’re searching for European hotels.

Bottom line

Some Mr & Mrs Smith properties cater to artists or want-to-be artists. Meanwhile, others cater to foodies or outdoor lovers. And travelers with young children will want to look for properties that offer Junior Smith activities or amenities. In short, make sure you select a property that’s a good fit for you.

When researching this article, I priced out hundreds of Mr and Mrs Smith bookings through IHG Rewards. In doing so, I found a relatively consistent redemption rate of about 0.57 cents per point. This is more than TPG’s valuation of IHG points and also more than you can typically buy IHG points several times each year. Even after the recent IHG Rewards dynamic pricing devaluation, it’s typically possible to get more than 0.57 cents per point. But, if you have the IHG Premier Credit Card or IHG Traveler Credit Card and can get a fourth night reward on your stay, it may still be worth redeeming IHG points for a Mr & Mrs Smith stay. However, you may struggle to find award availability at some properties.
