With mass vaccination underway, travelers are itching to get back out there and book their first international trips in over a year. Hyatt is no doubt a popular option for hotels due to a wide range of properties worldwide and reasonable redemption rates that start at 5,000 points per night for Category 1 hotels.

Due to the pandemic, Hyatt suspended its planned peak/off-peak award chart until July 2021. So if you plan on booking hotels during peak summer months, you may want to consider redeeming your points before the changes go into effect.

In this guide, we’ll consider how many nights you can squeeze out of 60,000 Hyatt points — the current sign-up bonus on The World of Hyatt Credit Card after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. Plus, up to 30,000 additional bonus points by earning 2 bonus points total per $1 spent in the first 6 months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1 bonus point, on up to $15,000 spent — as well as some examples of attractive Category 1 Hyatt properties outside the US.

How Many Nights Can I Get?

The current Hyatt award chart has eight categories, with Category 8 reserved for select properties from the Small Luxury Hotels of the World partnership.

For this piece, we’ll look at Category 1 properties since these are the ones where you’ll be able to stay the most nights with 60,000 points. Category 1 properties cost 5,000 points per night, which TPG values at $85. You can use additional points to reserve club rooms and suites at some properties, but you may need to call (800) 544-9288 to do so.

Unlike other hotel brands, Hyatt doesn’t offer a fourth or fifth night free on award stays. So, the most free nights you can get from 60,000 points is 10. However, you can book points and cash rates if you are short on points.

You can see all of the Hyatt Category 1 properties using Hyatt’s Explore Hotels tool. The rest of this guide describes some of the best Category 1 Hyatt properties outside the US.

How to earn Hyatt Points

If some of these options look appealing, but you don’t have enough World Of Hyatt points, there are a few ways you can earn them. One option is to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt. Another option is to purchase points during a sale. And a final option is to sign-up for The World of Hyatt Credit Card — which may also provide some benefits during stays — and meet the minimum spending requirements to earn the up to 60,000-point sign-up bonus.

Bottom Line

Hopefully, this guide — as well as last week’s domestic guide — got you excited about some Category 1 Hyatt redemptions where you can stretch your World of Hyatt points. As described in this guide, there is a Park Hyatt and many Hyatt Regency hotels where you can pay just 7,000 points per night to get a room with club access — that look excellent and are included on Hyatt’s Category 1 list. However, as with any redemption, be sure to check cash rates to ensure you’re getting a solid value since some of these properties tend to feature inexpensive rates for some nights.
