Benidorm is a favourite holiday spot for Britons as well as those who want to flee from the cold and into the sun permanently.
Why are British people drawn to Benidorm?
Sharon, assistant reception manager of the Rio Park Hotel, believes that it’s because the destination offers consistency for Britons.
Sharon stated: “It’s a home away from home, really. I see it like a little Britain.”
Nelson, the food and beverage manager added: “The guests always try to eat what they eat in England. If you cook similar to what they eat at home, they are happy.”
Tourists and expats alike can enjoy the warm climate and bustling atmosphere, without compromising on their favourite foods.
Nelson added: “Gravy with everything: with beef, rice, potatoes, fish, pasta – whatever, with gravy sauce.”
Guests can be spotted enjoying English favourites such as chips.
There are 192 hotels in Benidorm, according to Nelson, with Britons flocking by the thousands.
Additionally, Nelson explained that Britons love Benidorm because they are always received with open arms.
He stated: “The reasons guests are coming year after year, after year, is because we are really friendly.
“The most important thing is friendship.”
The documentary saw neighbour couples Rob and Audrey, and Brian and Maxine, swap the caravan park for the Benidorm pool for a two week holiday.
Extremely accommodating for Britons, it appears that they can enjoy home comforts – with an added bonus of 28 degree heat.
Entertainer Tom moved to Benidorm from the UK.
He stated: “When I was growing up I never knew what I wanted to do. As soon as I came here I realised, ‘Damn, this is cool’. I love this.
“We get the same guests coming three, four, five times a year, every year.”
Of course, British tourism gives expats like Tom a livelihood.
And he has a personal love of the island, as his mother used to frequently visit the Rio Park Hotel.
She eventually settled in Benidorm herself, alongside many of her friends.
Britons feel incredibly safe and secure settling in Benidorm, as they feel at home immediately.
