‘I went to a Yorkshire beach that’s better than abroad and feels tropical’
The UK has dozens of stunning beaches from those compared to Hawaii in Devon to a town that’s been dubbed "like Turkey". Plus, there’s also a fabulous beach in Yorkshire that people have said is “better than being abroad”.
The bold claim was made about Filey, in the borough of Scarborough. The seaside town is popular with northern beach goers and is apparently one of the best in the country.
On TripAdvisor, a woman named Annie said: "What a beach!!! If the weather is good it's better than abroad. Well kept by local volunteers which is lovely that they go out of their way to do."

Filey Beach has over 3,000 reviews on TripAdvisor many of which call the beach "excellent" and rate it "among the best beaches in the world". The beach has a beautiful five-mile stretch of sandy shore and a rugged coastline with great views.
But, is the claim that Filey is better than being abroad true? Well a journalist from Yorkshire Live headed to Filey to find out.
Samuel Port wrote that Filey is accessed from the A64 and that you’ll then need to navigate the steep and busy town streets which can be difficult. But, he added that the frantic energy felt similar to a French beach town, but that parking was hard to find too.
Samuel said: "At every twist and turn, shops, hotels, apartment blocks and quaint seaside homes are stuffed between each bend, overlooking the azure horizon as you swoop ever closer to the shore.
"As you start walking towards the coastline, you’ll notice various small cafés which have been charmingly hidden away beneath the brows of the hilly terrain. And these had outdoor seating areas catering to pretty much all the traditional seaside wants and needs, like ice-creams, iced coffees, fish and chips, more niche seafood, no doubt fresh from the coast, mere yards away."
Apparently you can also find gift shops selling beach must-haves like sandals, buckets, spades and rubber rings. Plus one that sold ice cream for dogs – a real treat for your pooch.
But, what about the actual beach? Was it resplendent? Well, sadly Samuel said that the weather was too cloudy.
He added: "One can imagine on a sunny day, which we’ve experienced many of which with the recent heatwave, that you’d have to pinch yourself as a reminder that you hadn’t just been transported to the tropic isles.
"There were busloads of school children blissfully playing along the beach in pure ecstasy while making sandcastles and writing messages in the sand."
Seems like he’s a big fan! Samuel noted that there was also crazy golf, a trampoline park and amusement arcades on offer. Plus, a fun statue of a fisherman wearing wellies.
He said: "If the weather’s good, Filey makes a compelling case for offering a holiday just as good as going abroad. Especially for those looking for budget-friendly options or avoid lengthy travel."
Brits looking for a beautiful beach to visit further south can try Ruislip Lido Beach which is on the London Underground. However, sadly you cannot swim in the water.
Those wanting a drip can try Woody Bay in Devon – a beach with waterfalls and a Victorian bath pool looks like paradise surrounded by trees, waterfalls and even a steam train. It's paradise!
Alternatively, head down to Cornwall. People have raved about Nanjizal Beach in Cornwall thanks to its gorgeous sand and water. They also praised Pedn Vounder which some say is like the Caribbean in Britain.
