Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca could be added to holiday green list within days
Tourist hotspots like Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca in Spain could be added to the UK’s green list over the next few days.
Brits desperate for a sunny holiday abroad will find out on Thursday if they can fly our to Spain, Greece and Italy without needing to quarantine.
Green list destinations require a number of private Covid tests to be taken before and after arriving at your destination, but no self-isolation upon return to the UK.
And, travel bosses are calling for popular countries in Europe to be added to the list after official data shoed that less than 1% of arrivals test positive.
Ministers will meet today to decide if any countries will be moved from the amber and red lists to the no-quarantine green designation.
Currently, only a select number of countries are deemed safe enough to be assigned green.
These include Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Gibraltar, Iceland, Israel, New Zealand, South Georgia, the Falkland Islands, the Faroe Islands, the South Sandwich Islands, Ascension, St Helena and Tristan da Cunha.
Many green listed countries are not allowing tourists from the UK to enter.
Portugal, Italy, Spain, Greece and France are currently on the Amber list.
The announcement of any changes to travel restrictions will be made on Thursday, June 24.
Any changes will be stated no later than June 28.
And, official scientists have given the green light to Spain's Balearic Islands, deeming them safe for travel, the Daily Mail reports.
If ministers agree, Brits will be able fly to Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera without quarantine upon return.
Scientists have also approved Malta but this was rejected by ministers last month.
And, Portugal was moved from the green list to the amber list unexpectedly.
Additionally, Matt Hancock has confirmed that the UK government is “absolutely working on” ending mandatory quarantine for people who have had both doses of the vaccine.
