‘I’m a travel pro – booking last minute can help you get the best holiday deals’
A travel expert recently shared online her top tip for saving money on your next holiday. She claims that families can save up to 20% on the cost of their flights by taking a risk with last minute bookings.
Maya Reynolds, from Faye Travel Insurance, posted about the "holiday travel" trick which she says is perfect for bargain hunters who "love a thrill". In a TikTok video, she says that booking as close as possible to departure can save you a fortune.
Of course, the trick won’t work if you need to plan far ahead for dog sitters, time off work or other longer term plans. But, for those who can be spontaneous it could be a great way of saving some cash.

Maya said: "Am I the only one just finding out that booking your travels last minute can actually be cheaper than booking way in advance? Because that is definitely good to know. They say the early bird gets the worm but people have reported saving up to 20% when booking flights the day of. It's definitely a gamble but if you love a thrill this hack might be for you."
She added that throughout the year the cheapest days to travel were Tuesdays and Wednesdays – a stat that’s backed by fellow travel industry pros. Plus, Maya said it’s even cheaper to fly on Christmas Day itself and you get to fly "at the same time as Santa".
While booking last minute can save you cash it's not a perfect system. Those who need to plan much farther ahead can still get a bargain by knowing when to book.
