Jet2 and sister brand Jet2holidays are adding extra flights from Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow Airports. The airline has decided to increase the number of services for the England and Scotland games in the Six Nations rugby championship due to “strong demand”.
Rome will be hosting the Six Nations rugby championship at the beginning of next year.
Airline Jet2 has said that because of the high demand from rugby fans looking to attend matches, they added more services to the Italian capital in February and March 2022.
The extra flights are now available from Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow to Fiumicino airport in Rome.
The additional city breaks are perfectly timed for those looking to watch England vs Italy on February 13, and Scotland vs Italy on March 12 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Flights from Birmingham and Manchester have been added on Friday 11 and returning on Monday 14 February 2022.
There is also an extra round trip from Glasgow on Friday 11 and returning on Monday 14 March 2022.
Next winter Jet2 will be offering flights and city breaks from five UK bases.
These will be Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle Airports.
Passengers can pick from flight-only options with Jet2, or package holiday options with Jet2CityBreaks.
Chief executive of Jet2 and Jet2holidays, Steve Heapy, said: “We’ve all missed being able to watch live sport.
“It’s no surprise that we are seeing strong demand from customers looking to see England and Scotland play in the Six Nations Championship in Rome.
“With the Six Nations being a highlight in the sporting calendar, it’s one rugby fans will want to experience live and not miss out on.
“On the back of that demand, we have put on additional flights and city breaks from Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester Airports, which are perfectly timed for fans wanting to head to the Italian city to visit Rome and see these matches.”
The airline also announced last week an update on its summer operations.
Although from May 17 international travel is allowed from the UK, Jet2 maintained its decision to hold off on resuming flights and holidays until June 24.
The Leeds-based carrier explained: “We’re really looking forward to restarting our holidays and flights programme again from June 24 2021.
“We’re taking the time to get everything ready at our airports, onboard our planes and in our resorts to give you the safest and smoothest holiday experience possible.”
The airline also developed its own “traffic light policy” for summer bookings in line with Government guidelines.
“The UK Government has committed to reviewing its Traffic Light ‘status’ of overseas destinations every three weeks.
“We’ll review our programme and policies in line with that timetable. We expect to review again on or around June 1 2021 and every three weeks after that.
Customers are advised to check the travel and entry requirements for their destination at least 14 days before travelling.
Green list destination holidays will go ahead as planned, but for amber list destinations, Jet2 said: “We’ll review the status of destinations on the amber list following the next UK Government review which we expect to be on or around June 1, 2021.
“However, if your flight is due to depart on or before July 18 2021, if you want to, you can amend your flight admin-fee-free.”
Regarding countries on the red list, Jet2 announced: “If your destination is on the red list at the next Government update we’ll allow you to cancel your flight free of charge if it is due to depart up to and including July 18 2021, and we will of course keep the situation under close review.”
