Luxury hotel opens underwater room where you can watch fish from your bed
Most of us love going on holiday somewhere by the sea where we can swim, snorkel and scuba dive. But, you can now sleep in a hotel room which is underwater itself…
On Pemba Island, off the coast of Africa and part of Tanzania, a five-star resort has created the underwater room which is anchored into the ocean floor by ties. it sits on the water and will rock you to sleep.
The windows in your bedroom will glow turquoise like the water outside and you’ll even see schools of fish flicker past you as they swim around. The room is set to float – while being safely tied down – too.

That means that you can relax on your outdoor patio space on comfy sofas while gazing out at the uninterrupted view of the water. Or, get your goggles on and dive into the sea to meet the fish you’ve seen from your windows.
If you walk up to the second floor out of the water then you can catch the most incredible view of the sunset and sunrise – there’s even an outdoor bed up there to lounge on.
At night, fall asleep to the sound of the waves and count how many fish swim past your room. There is a three-night minimum stay for the underwater room at Manta resort – but you probably won’t want to leave anyway.
The Manta website states: "Anchored in an ocean floor anomaly we call the blue hole, the floating underwater room tops almost anything. Encapsulated within a turquoise blue bubble, watching shoals of reef fish swim by – sometimes in three or four layers of different species, this is a truly heart-stopping, yet awakening, experience.
"The floating structure, Swedish engineered, provides three levels, above the water clad in local hardwood is a lounge, bathroom below a stargazing, sun tanning bed. Each one worthy of its own story.”
When you head onto the island resort from your floating room there’s plenty to enjoy too. The Seaview restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with fish seafood at the heart of the offering.
There’s also a beach bar where you can get cocktails, mocktails and other delights to sip on using handpicked island fruits. And, of course there’s the beach.
The wide expanse of white sand is perfect for relaxing. You can even get meals served on the veranda overlooking the beach and ocean – and when high tide hits the beach becomes a pool!
If you’re looking for less salty water to whim in there’s a two-tiered sparkling swimming pool on the island surrounded by loungers. There are lots of excursions to enjoy too.
You can learn to go scuba diving or snorkelling. Get stuck into a deep sea fishing trip or head to the mainland for a safari.
A sunset cruise in a traditional fisherman’s vessel is also an option where you’ll spot reefs, sip bubbly and watch the sun go down. Or, when the tide is low a sandbank rises above the water.
You can sail to the glorious sandbank and relax with cool refreshments surrounded by the sea. It’s a pretty incredible sight!
Finally, head on a Pemba Island excursion around the "ancient Ngezi rainforest, spice farm and other places of interest." What a trip!
The underwater room costs from $1760 (£1371) a night, but there are cheaper accommodations. These include the Seafront Villas from $680 (£529) a night, Superior Garden Rooms from $480 (£374) a night and standard garden rooms from $400 (£311)a night.
