Once described as ‘the most comfortable house in England’, this private home has been owned by the British monarchy since 1862. Her Majesty traditionally spends two months of the winter season at the 20,000 acre estate, while several members of the extended Royal Family tend to travel up for Christmas and New Year.

However, Sandringham is not just popular during the festive period, the Norfolk-based house often welcomes royal members during the summer time.

The Queen’s granddaughter Zara and her husband Mike Tindall are believed to be spending the end of the summer at Sandringham with their three children, Mia, Lena and Lucas.

In July this year, the 95-year-old monarch was pictured driving around the estate in her Land Rover for the first time since the death of her husband Prince Philip in April.

Prince Philip and the Queen last retreated to Wood Farm Cottage on the estate in September 2020 before returning to Windsor Castle.

Queen Elizabeth II is currently spending her summer holidays at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, meaning that the public can visit Sandringham and its gardens until October 14.

But if you can’t make it before then you can still grab an AirBnB near enough to catch a glimpse of Sandringham House from afar.

Here are some of the best ranked accommodations on AirBnb close to Her Majesty’s royal abode.

What could be more royal than staying in a large 19th Century Georgian detached house in the heart of the countryside?

Currently with a rating of 4.93 stars out of five, The Old Bakehouse dates back to 1813, and still retains most of its Georgian period charm that would fit perfectly in a Jane Austen novel.

Guests have private use of the downstairs snug for a cosy evening with a fully enclosed courtyard.

Superhost Suzy welcomes small dogs for an additional surcharge of £10 per night and offers breakfast either in the dining room or the garden.

A day out to Sandringham Estate is a 15 minute drive away, with the Norfolk coast roughly a 30 min drive.

For a two-night stay in the double bedroom for a weekend in November at The Old Bakehouse costs £99 per night.
