‘Magnificient’ UK destination crowned one of the best holidays for 2024
Planning next year’s holiday? The expert team at Lonely Planet have just released the best destinations to explore in 2024.
While some of the winning destinations are farflung spots such as Patagonia or New Zealand, one of this year’s most sustainable winners is right here in the UK.
Wales Trails just missed out on a top three ranking when it came to sustainable travel, landing just behind Greenland. The country was celebrated for its approach to eco-travel.
A Lonely Planet spokesperson said: “One of the world’s first countries to legislate for sustainability, the revamped railways expand the possibilities of exploring the nation’s wild, wonderful west.
“New train stations and increased services are planned for South Wales’s main rail line in early 2025. Whilst out-of-the-way Pembrokeshire National Park is accessible by car and set to become more so.”

Pembrokeshire National Park is one of the UK’s most breathtaking regions so it’s great news for Britons that the area is becoming more accessible. Visit Wales states: “With 186 miles of magnificent and varied coastline and over 50 beaches, there’s plenty of space for everyone.”
Pembrokeshire’s coastline has some of the UK’s prettiest beaches and whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, there’s a spot for you. Adrenaline junkies can join a coasteering tour which includes cave swimming and boulder climbing.
In keeping with the region’s reputation for sustainability, travellers could join a foraging tour and learn which kind of seaweed makes a tasty snack.

The region has some of the UK’s most diverse wildlife and tourists will have a chance of spotting seals, basking sharks and turtles.
