Maldives resort offers free three week stay in deluxe villa with sunset cruise

Many Brits dream of jetting off to the Maldives – a collection of atolls in the Indian Ocean that boast turquoise waters and white sand.

Plus, we’ve all seen those overwater bungalows that seem like heaven to stay in.

But, the cost of such a long-haul, luxury holiday is out of most people’s price range.

Luckily, one resort group in the Maldives, Coco Collection, is giving one person the internship of a lifetime.

They’re in the lookout for a green-fingered person to become a “Coral Reef Gardener” and work alongside their in-house Marine Educator – and they'll fly you out for the job.

The stunning location is home to some of the most enchanting and diverse coral reefs in the world – which can be spotted when snorkelling around the resorts.

However, climate change is causing marine ecosystems to suffer.

Increasing sea temperatures and subsequent coral bleaching, ocean acidification, sea-level rise and changing rainfall patterns may all be having an effect on the delicate ecosystems.

And, protection and regeneration of these reefs – which are aquatic habitats, food provisions and improve wider shoreline protection – is something that Coco Collection has been working on for years.

If you’ve ever dreamed of working with ocean life in one of the most beautiful places in the world this internship could be your dream job!

The lucky winner will be flown out to the luxurious Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu resort, where they will take up their three-week placement in September, assisting the Marine Educator on managing and fostering coral growth in the surrounding house reefs.

Maintaining and restoring coral is vital for marine conservation and aquatic life as a whole, and the intern will support the team in their replanting schemes to strengthen these vital ecosystems.

From developing coral around man-made frames and planting coral through to fish identification within the reefs and working with neighbouring local islands on their coral reef regeneration programmes the role is ideal for the eco and marine enthusiast.

The winner will receive:

  • Roundtrip flights to the Maldives
  • Roundtrip seaplane transfers to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu
  • 3 weeks accommodation in a Deluxe Beach Villa including Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner
  • A Sunset Cruise
  • A Spa Treatment

“The Maldives faces increasing environmental and social challenges as its popularity grows and we all have a part to play in ensuring that the beautiful, but fragile ecosystems remain intact,” saed Rosalie Bailie, Marine Educator at Coco Collection.

“Sustainability has always been at the heart of what we do at Coco Collection from on-island use of sustainable alternatives, to our tree planting programmes and our long standing partnership with the Olive Ridley Project – we know we have a duty to protect this unique ecosystem for the immediate and future generations.

‘We hope our new intern will reflect this ethos and we are looking forward to receiving applications for this fantastic opportunity to come join the team and continue their eco mission.”

If you want the chance to be the new intern on the idyllic island of Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu you’ll need to submit a 2-3 minute video and a 500-word cover letter explaining why you would fit the role.

Applicants do not need previous experience, but must be over 18 and have to be a competent open water swimmer.

The applications are open here and will close on May 12 at noon Maldives time (that’s five hours ahead so around 7am GMT).

Coco Collection will then create a shortlist of candidates before selecting the final winner on June 2.
