Man slammed for ‘entitled’ rant at woman who refused to swap seats on flight
A woman has explained that she was shamed by a passenger on a recent eight-hour flight because she didn’t want to sacrifice her seat for a child who had been separated from their family. The British holidaymaker groaned on Reddit about the situation dubbing the parents "entitled".
She was furious that the mum and dad expected paying customers to give up their seats for their children. Especially because they wanted her to switch to a middle seat – arguably the worst seat in the row.
The woman also didn’t want to move as she had ordered a special meal to her place and was worried this would be mislaid. But, was aghast when fellow passengers shouted at her for her decision.

In a Reddit post on the "Am I the A**hole" forum, she said that she was flying from a country in Africa to the UK. However, the issue begane halfway through her journey when she had to board a connecting flight in Dubai. She booked an aisle seat so she could get up when she wanted. The woman also had a special dietary meal pre-booked due to a health condition.
But, when she sat down she was soon asked to swap with a child so that the kids from a family of five could spend the flight on the same row together. She wrote: "I initially said yes, thinking it was just a move across the aisle, but then realised they wanted me to switch to sit in a middle seat and I said no.
"Another passenger then gets up and says he has a seat in the back that I can move to and I said no, that I had booked my seat and ordered a dietary meal. He then starts loudly criticising me, saying he hopes I understand that I'm splitting a family up. This eventually attracts attention from the crew as it's holding up boarding."
Another passenger eventually switched seats with the child, but that apparently didn’t put an end to the matter. The furious man continued to berate her for her choice.
She explained: "The other passenger from before starts loudly saying to his kids and the family 'Do you understand what happened? She thought her seat was too special so she wouldn't let you sit together.' I told the guy to mind his own business and he responded that he wasn't talking about me.
"I didn't think I was in the wrong here. I organised myself beforehand and booked my seat, and felt it was unfair to have a guy criticising me to half the cabin for not wanting to swap a seat for an 8 hour flight. AITA?"
The woman asked Reddit users whether she was in the wrong. Thousands liked and commented on the post, mostly assuring her that she was not the problem.
One person said: "You booked your seat. It's yours. I don't understand the entitlement of people who insist other people pay for their ineptitude."
Another joked: "How DARE you to not sign up to be uncomfortable for eight hours straight because of my lack of responsibility. My children are YOUR problem."
While a third commented: "Drives me insane. It's an epidemic of people getting on planes and expecting others, who have planned their trips and booked their seats, to accommodate them. Hell no."
