Meghan vowed she and Harry would collect more ‘air miles than any couple’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan can an unprecedented insight into the couple’s personal lives. In the final episode, the Duchess of Sussex shared her wedding speech with viewers.

In it, she described her vision for their relationship, including a lot of travel.

Meghan and Harry wed on May 19, 2018, at a chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Later, at Frogmore House, Meghan made her speech.

She read to guests, including her new in-laws Prince William and Kate Middleton and TV host Oprah Winfrey, that she viewed the romance as a “modern fairytale”.

She said: “I wanted to share a story. A story that I wrote about the man that I love and the way that we met. Let’s call this a modern fairytale.”

During the speech, she named checked Botswana, a country the pair traveled to early in their relationship.

Meghan said: “And after a month of long-distance courtship, they settle into the quiet of Botswana.”

She went on: “And amidst whatever momentary worries that creep in, they look at each other and think, ‘Whatever, world, we’re in.’

“They would love, and garden, and travel, and laugh, and rack up more air miles than any couple could have.

“And when the tides were rough, they squeezed each other tighter. ‘Nothing can break us,’ they’d say. ‘For this love, she was a fighter.'”

She went on: “I appreciate, respect and honor you, my treasure, for the family we will create, and our love story that will last forever.”

The couple has done a lot of travel since they met. A study by Stratos Jet Charters published in 2021 found the pair had racked up a number of air miles on royal trips between 2015 and that year.

Prince Harry has traveled 51,362 air miles across seven trips.

Meghan had traveled less, being a new member of the Royal Family. She totted up 16,398 air miles across three trips.
