Most aesthetic city in the world is an iconic European capital
Tourists travel for a number of different reasons, whether it be to experience new cultures, try exotic foods, or to take in the beautiful sights of a brand-new city.
It can be tricky to decide where you want to head to on holiday, but the team at Swift Direct Blinds have created the Global Aesthetic Cities Index to determine which capital cities are the most pleasing on the eye.
The Global Aesthetic Cities Index was compiled using data from Instagram and TikTok, as well as the number of world heritage sites and landmarks, to give each city a score out of 10.
1. Rome, Italy
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Rome is the most aesthetic city in the world, with a score of 9.13/10 – largely due to the fact the city is home to eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The home of the Colosseum, Rome has an impressive 38 landmarks per 100,000 residents. Other notable attractions include the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

2. Paris, France
Following closely behind is Paris, with an overall aesthetics score of 8.69/10. Considered one of the most romantic and stylish cities in the world, it may be slightly surprising that the French capital hasn’t clinched the top spot.
Paris has over a whopping 28 million TikTok views for the hashtags #beautifulparis and #parisviews – around twice as much as the city’s population, and it received just under a quarter of a million aesthetic-related Google searches from September 2022 to August 2023.
3. London, United Kingdom
London completes the top three with an overall aesthetics score of 8.39/10.
The capital of the United Kingdom is home to five UNESCO World Heritage sites and boasts 31 million aesthetic-related views on TikTok.

4. Prague, Czechia
A favourable and affordable city-break destination for Brits, Prague takes fourth place with an overall esthetics score of 8.13/10.
The Czech capital’s lofty ranking is largely due to the fact there are a staggering 63 landmarks per 100,000 residents, the most famous being the iconic Astronomical Clock.
5. Amsterdam, Netherlands and Lisbon, Portugal
Another city-break favourite for Brits completes the top five, with Amsterdam gaining an overall aesthetic score of 7.91 – tied in fifth place with the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.
Amsterdam has an impressive 51 landmarks per 100,000 residents and just under 120,000 aesthetic-related Google searches from September 2022 to August 2023.
Whilst Lisbon is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the stunning Belém Tower.
