Most beautiful beach destination for 2023 is ‘totally idyllic’ with amazing food

A recent study by Handluggageonly revealed the 12 best beaches in the USA to visit this year and one of them is South Beach, in Miami, Florida.

British tourists visiting the United States and looking for the most idyllic beaches should definitely head to Miami Beach. I recently visited the holiday spot and I was not disappointed.

Miami is a fascinating city famous for its Art Deco buildings, which are a must-see in town, its Cuban food and culture and its stunning beaches.

Experts at Handluggageonly explained that Miami’s “powdery white sand makes it totally idyllic for a day at the beach”.

I went to South Beach and that is exactly what you will find, white sand, turquoise waters and, while Florida isn’t actually part of the Caribbean, it definitely has a tropical feel.

Stretching for almost nine miles, most of the time the beach is almost empty and holidaymakers can enjoy a relaxing day by the sea, with the water warm enough for swimming all year round.

On the weekends, some parts of South Beach can get a bit crowded, but it’s big enough for tourists to find a peaceful section.

The colourful lifeguard towers make South Beach an even more idyllic and charming location for a beach holiday.

Interestingly, Miami’s lifeguard towers were first installed after Hurricane Andrew, considered the costliest disaster in Florida, in the 1990s.

The colourful and vibrant city is absolutely fabulous, however, tourists visiting the sunshine state should note that Miami is a very expensive destination.

I was surprised by how pricey food and drinks were with a cocktail costing $15 (£12) on average. On top of that, a 20 percent service charge will be added to your bill and a tip is expected.

Visitors should definitely make the most of happy hour, taking place between 4pm and 7pm at almost all bars and restaurants in South Beach, when all drinks are sold at reduced prices.

Renting sunbeds, umbrellas and towels at South Beach is also very expensive, generally costing $15 (£12) per sunbed, although some places can charge up to $80 (£61) in total for the day.

Miami is known for its delicious seafood, it was actually named the “foodie” city of the year 2023 by Bon Appétit, and although Cuban food is most abundant, travellers will also find amazing Mexican and other South American cuisines.

On Tripadvisor, visitors said Ocean Drive is a great place to explore and go for dinner and drinks at night as “the food is amazing”.

One explained: “A must-do in Miami! No trip to Miami would be complete without a visit to Ocean Drive. It’s a great place to walk down during the evening when it cools down a bit.”

The summer months are a good time to travel to Miami for fewer crowds but holidaymakers should be aware of the hurricane season, taking place from June 1 to November 30.

June and July are generally safe months to visit, but temperatures are very hot with an average of 33C. The weather can be unpredictable, but despite some rain in the afternoon, travellers will have plenty of sunshine and blue skies.

For those who prefer a more pleasant climate, the best time to go to Miami is between November and March. This is, however, Miami’s peak season, so expect large crowds and higher rates.
