Most ‘underrated’ Mediterranean destination ‘surprisingly affordable’

Travel experts at boat rental platform Samboat revealed the most “underrated Mediterranean destinations” for 2023. They shared the best holiday spots for an idyllic and “affordable” boat trip, and to enjoy a summer break “like a monarch on the Med”. The experts highly recommended experiencing a boat trip on these destinations to “cruise along the tranquil turquoise waters” and “explore all the bustling cities and magnificent coastlines”.

A number of locations in the Mediterranean are “waiting to be uncovered”, the experts said, with many lively ports and “hidden gems which will take your breath away”.

These dreamy destinations aren’t reserved for holidaying royals, and some of the most “astonishing spots best discovered by boat” are “surprisingly affordable”.

Some of the travel guru’s “favourites” are Kotor, in Montenegro, Ibiza, in Spain, Corsica, in France, and Sibenik, in Croatia.

Kotor, Montenegro

Kotor is “perhaps one of the more ‘underrated’ Mediterranean hotspots is Montenegro,” the experts said, but it is starting to make its way onto the radar of tourists across the globe.

Growing in popularity for its “small-town charm, golden beaches and beautiful mountainous views”, the bay of Kotor makes a particularly “magnificent boating destination”.

The travel gurus explained that it is “perfect for a group trip” as holidaymakers can rent a boat for an excursion around the bay for only £132 per day.

Holidaymakers can visit the picturesque towns of Kotor, Perast and the tiny island of Our Lady of the Rocks, and the most stunning views are definitely from the boat.

Corsica, France

Corsica is one of the most popular islands in France, formed over 200 million years ago and located in the Mediterranean Sea.

The island is home to “beautiful natural resources, including breathtaking mountains and endless coasts”, with tourists from all over the world visiting every year.

The experts recommended the port city of Porto-Vecchio as it is “a fabulous place to take a boat trip, boasting pine-lined sandy beaches and the Santa Guilia lagoon as well as safe sailing conditions”.

Sibenik, Croatia

Croatia is a “fantastic spot” in the Mediterranean for tourists, the travel experts said, which has been gaining popularity in recent years.

Boating in Croatia is a must, with travellers visiting from across the world in search of the wonderful climate and picturesque ports to enjoy.

“Exploring some of the islands, coves and beaches makes for the perfect day trip” and luckily for tourists, there are a variety of affordable boats available for under £100 per day, experts at SamBoat suggested.

Travel expert Simon Calder recently shared some very affordable destinations to visit this summer, especially when buying a package holiday.

Some of his suggestions for 2023 included Lanzarote, Costa Blanca and Majorca, in Spain, and North Macedonia, as the “cheapest” coastal holiday spots.

For those tourists who fancy a boat trip while holidaying abroad, they can book a day trip, weekend getaway or week-long break for as little as £35 a day with Samboat.
