Mount Evans Road, Independence Pass are now open

Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the Mount Evans Road and Independence Pass are open following the conclusion of snow removal efforts and spring maintenance work.

The Mount Evans Road opened Friday morning. In addition to snow removal, crews filled in potholes and fixed signs damaged by winter storms. Reservations, which are available through Recreation.gov, are required to park at the Mount Goliath Natural Area, Summit Lake Park and the mountain’s summit. The 15-mile route from the Echo Lake Lodge to the summit is the highest paved road in North America, topping out at 14,264 feet.

Independence Pass opened Thursday afternoon. According to a CDOT news release, crews there conducted avalanche mitigation, fixed potholes and guardrails and restriped the pavement.
