Mum offers passengers £569 to look after three kids during 24 hour flight

A mother-of-three has taken an unusual tactic when it comes to caring for her children on an upcoming flight – and it’s gone viral around the world.

The mum offered up $1000 (£569) to anyone willing to help her manage her young kids on her Malaysia Airlines flight from London to Sydney on June 12.

Her offspring ranged in age, but each offered unique challenges while on a flight.

And, we’re not sure we blame the mum asking for help as flying with a four-year-old, two-year-old and two-month-old would be tricky for anyone.

Posting on Facebook this week, the parent specified her requirements as the sole carer for her children on the long-haul journey.

She made clear what she would need help with while on the 23.5hour flight.

The mum, from Bondi in Sydney, said: “Type of things you might be helping with: holding the baby so I can help the older girls, helping the four-year-old and two-year-old with their meals, keeping four-year-old and two-year-old entertained – puzzles, books, get their TVs and headphones sorted etc.

“Also maybe have the baby in the baby carrier for a nap so I can help the older girls/give them attention.”

The payment, which would work out at around £24 per hour, was aimed at people who already had tickets for the same flight.

The mum continued: “Whenever the older girls are asleep you wouldn’t need to do anything and even when they’re awake I am happy for them to watch as much TV as they like.

“So all you might need to do then is make sure headphones don’t fall off, put on next movie etc. I will also do as much as I can, but I’ll have the baby to look after as well.”

The woman said that her kids had been on a long haul flight on their way to the UK and were “pretty well behaved and slept”.

She added that the four-year-old had slept for 10 hours of the journey while the two-year-old slept for eight.

But, she noted: “But now I have one extra child and won’t have my husband with me.

“Let me know if you are interested or know anyone who would be.”

Dozens of people said that they wished they could help or encouraged the mother’s efforts.

One person said: “I would love this job! Wish I was going to England – hope you can find someone.”

Other people suggested alternative methods of finding a flight helper.

One commenter said: “You’ll probably find people on the flight will help, even staff.”

“If you don’t find anyone have $1000 cash ready to go in your pocket when you get to the airport check-in and seeing if you can I find someone on the same flight,” added another.

While a third wrote: “Call Malaysia Airline and see if they offer help I’m sure they do.”
