For many, it’s been a year of canceled trips. And missed experiences. And wanderlust.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, photography and videography of the places we yearn to travel remind us of the world beyond quarantine and provide hope and inspiration for future travels.
To that end, National Geographic’s “18 Timeless Photos That Remind Us Why We Miss Traveling” explores beautiful places to help “inspire your future itineraries and remind you of the breathtaking scenes the world has to offer.”
The publication asked select photographers to share images of places they long to visit after the pandemic ends. The results were nothing short of stunning.
Whitney Johnson, vice president of visuals and immersive experiences at National Geographic, was one of the curators and told USA TODAY in a statement that the photos “were chosen from among some of the best photographers in the world and represent some of the most memorable moments of the year.”
Johnson added: “In a time when travel is largely restricted, trips delayed and a passion for seeing the world put on hold, we hope these photographs provide a glimpse of all that has happened around the world in the last year, both the difficult moments and the triumphs celebrated.”
