New world cruise ship to set sail around 148 countries in epic three-year trip

Any Brits who love a cruise know it can be a great way to explore multiple destinations in one holiday. You don’t have to move to a new hotel and can enjoy the pool, food and entertainment while moving from one port to the next.

However, for most of us one or two weeks is the most time we can afford to spend on a luxury ship. But, it seems for some a much longer cruise is an ideal way to live their life.

Miray Cruises, founders of Life at Sea Cruises, is launching an extensive three-year-long cruise this November. Visiting 148 countries over seven continents they claim it’s the first cruise of its kind.

Plus, the voyage has proven so popular the cruise line is looking for a new, larger ship to accommodate all those holidaymakers who have signed up. The all-inclusive trip – pinned as a "cruise around the world" costs from $87,720 per person (£69,247).

Miray Cruises announced at the end of June they would use the MV Lara ship to accommodate the huge number of travellers who signed up to the three-year trip rather than its smaller ship MV Gemini. It claims that the new ship will create a "neighbourhood-type feel" on board as well as a sense of "community" for the journey.

After moving in for the launch in November, guests will be able to take advantage of staterooms, a business centre, offices, a cigar and wine bar and some added extras. The ship will have a 24-hour hospital with complimentary medical visits.

There’s also a gym, bar and pool deck as well as a theatre. Each of the restaurants is included in the overall price and includes some gourmet buffet options.

Plus, to keep things interesting residents can get into learning and enrichment lectures. Or, they can engage in volunteering initiatives.

There’s also a spa, salon for face, body, hair and nail treatments. Plus, fitness classes like yoga, aerobics and meditation.

During the three-year journey, the 42,000 gross ton vessel’s voyage will span over 130,000 miles covering 382 ports, 7 continents, and 148 countries. Stops will include 13 of the wonders of the world and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

These include Christ the Redeemer in Rio, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza and Petra in Jordan. You’ll also see the Colosseum in Rome, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Colossus of Rhodes and Chichen Itza in Mexico.

Travellers will get to spend several days at each port so they can explore without feeling rushed. And, at almost every destination there’s the option to play golf.

Countries you’ll visit include Brazil, Puerto Rico, Guyana, Suriname, Peru, Antartica, Chile, Ecuador, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, Honduras, the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, the Philippines, Fiji, Australia, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and more.

You’ll also stop off at the Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Madagascar, Siera Leone, Tenerife, Portugal and Gibraltar. Plus, France, Belgium, Scotland, Iceland, Norway, Ireland, England, Malta, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Greece, the Netherlands, Latvia Poland and far too many more to list!

"We are beyond excited to introduce the beautiful MV Lara for this incredible, history-making, 3-year voyage" says Kendra Holmes, CEO of Miray Cruises.

"Our fleet is expanding due to the unprecedented demand for our long-duration circumnavigation voyages to responsibly explore every corner of our planet. Our residents are changing their lives for this opportunity, and we are honoured to be a part of their personal journeys."
