This week, the three sunseekers travelled to Fuerteventura in the Spanish Canary Islands to find a bargain holiday home. While they were impressed with many of the island’s properties, a few fell down on key details.
The presenters explored properties in the north of Fuerteventura and judged each one on three key factors.
They were looking for a home with the ‘Wow factor’ location, much needed facilities and value for money.
Amanda said: “Fuerteventura is a great place to come for an affordable summer holiday. I can see why last year nearly one million tourists visited the island.”
The gorgeous island is popular with beachgoers but also boasts incredible volcanic landscapes and nature.
Amanda took the others to a house in Corralejo, a town in the popular northeast of Fuerteventura.
She said: “For a different scene, you can visit the sand dunes on the nearby beach which form part of a nature reserve.”
Amanda’s house was very centrally located and had room for nine guests in a spacious family-friendly format.
The property had five bedrooms and two bathrooms with a well equipped kitchen and living area.
The villa cost around £1,100 upwards for a week’s holiday depending on the season making it about £110-£170 per person.
While Sam liked some of the property’s features, he disliked how close it was to neighbouring properties saying: “If this villa was on top of a hill somewhere with an amazing view, you’d have the wow factor. You’d just feel too hemmed in.”
The property’s garden even had a plunge pool and a fun outdoor cooking area with a huge BBQ.
JB said: “I think the location is brilliant. You’re a 10 minute walk from the beach. But it doesn’t have the wow factor.”
Amanda: “It isn’t a glitzy villa. I think there’s enough space for people to be together. In terms of value for money I don’t think you could really go wrong.”
Sam chose to take the group to a very different villa in another part of the villa. Surrounded by volcanoes and arid landscapes, the villa was still only a 15 minute drive away from the nearest beach.
JB said: “I’m not sold on it. There’s no internal access to the other rooms and if I brought my kids here that wouldn’t be ideal.”
But Amanda was more impressed and said guests could even rent out individual rooms to people who wanted to visit Fuerteventura for surfing.
The house cost around £147-205 per person per week depending on the season of the holiday.
Amanda added: “As a big communal area it’s perfect. It doesn’t feel uber expensive but it just works.”
