People ‘walk on clouds’ at tourist attraction that ‘looks like gates of heaven’

An unusual natural tourist attraction has gained attention online for looking like "the entrance to heaven".

Salar de Uyuni, in Bolivia, is the world’s largest salt flat and when water sits on top of the salt it appears like you’re walking on clouds.

While the salt makes the ground a solid white the water creates an enormous mirror reflecting the blue sky and fluffy clouds below.

You can take in the beauty while you walk or take some incredible Instagram photos.

On TikTok people even said that it stood up against the "Instagram versus reality" test and truly looks like it does in photos and videos.

TikTok page @trainpal recently went viral with a collection of clips showing the stunning salt flats.

They said that it was a 'bucket list item" and advised that the best time to view it was "January to April".

Over 2.6m people liked the video and many added comments too.

In the comments, people asked whether the salt pan looked so magical in real life.

One woman answered: "It really is like this if you don’t go in busy seasons."

Some people felt it had a supernatural and serene feel. One person described it as "the entrance to heaven", while another said it is "how I imagine heaven would look".

"Been there," another person wrote. "Incredibly beautiful."

The salt flat are in the Andes of Bolivia and measures a huge 11,000sqkm.

There are fascinating rock formations and cacti-studded islands amid the salt pan.

The gorgeous, "otherworldly" expanse can be seen from Incahuasi Island – part of the indigenous communities territory of Llica and Tahua.

To get there you can take a bus, train or plane to the town of Uyuni or a tour from Tupiza.

There are plenty of hotels and guesthouses in Uyuni.

In April, hostels cost from around £9.50 per person per night – such as the Piedra Blanca Backpackers Hostel.

While a room for one person will cost from £26 per person per room such as at the Tonito Hotel.
