The Balearic Government has now lifted the tough restrictions and social gatherings will be allowed at night. The rule was lifted from September 15 and means that British tourists will be able to attend mixed household parties on the island.

Despite the lifting of the ban on social gatherings, other tough rules on nightlife have remained in place in Ibiza.

Nightclubs remain closed in a harsh ban that has upset DJs and producers across the island.

Many British tourists visit Ibiza for its nightlife scene with world famous clubs such as Ushuaia offering epic end of year parties.

The White Isle is also a favourite of celebrities with Craig David, Kate Moss, Lionel Messi and Gary Lineker all spending time on the island.

Restaurants are now allowed to seat groups of up to eight indoors while 12 guests may eat together outside.

Some night clubs have opened in a limited fashion with seating outdoors and early evening closures.

The Twitter account, Ibiza Spotlight, tweeted: “Tunes are no problem, it’s the dancing bit which is a bit thorny.”

Dancing is currently not allowed in nightclubs on the island, curtailing Ibiza’s famous party atmosphere.

The ban on social gatherings was put in place due to so-called “super spreader” illegal villa parties.

As nightclubs and other venues remained closed during the pandemic, many people arranged big private parties and raves.

The local Government said the parties had caused a rise in Covid causes and brought in the ban on social mixing.

Mixed household gatherings are still not allowed in beaches or parks in Ibiza between two and four am.

Many British tourists have been visiting Ibiza this summer despite the strict laws on nightclubs, bars and parties.

In August, the island saw the same number of visitors land at the airport as two years before.

Ibiza has recorded a decline in Covid infections and the island’s vaccination programme is also well underway.

Iago Neguereula, tourism minister, said the new measures were part of a “progressive lifting of restrictions.”

The Balearic islands will also no longer require passenger locator forms for tourists who arrive from within Spain.

UK double-vaccinated tourists must currently take a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or before day two after arrival in the UK.

Testing restrictions will soon change for the double-jabbed as pre-departure tests will be scrapped on October 4.

Grant Shapps announced that the day two PCR test will be replaced by a lateral flow test later on in October.
