Popular Golden Gate Canyon State Park seeks input on 10-year plan

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is in the process of developing a new 10-year management plan for Golden Gate State Park and is seeking public input.

The 12,000-acre park, located in the foothills 10 miles west of Arvada, is Colorado’s third-busiest state park. Visitation has spiked dramatically since 2019, and it attracted more than 1.3 million visitors in 2022.

According to a news release, this will be the park’s first new management plan since 1997. Users can read the draft plan and comment through the park’s website until the public comment period ends on April 15. Some of the proposals include everything from upgrading or adding restrooms, stabilizing historic structures and remodeling the popular Aspen Meadows Campground.

“We want the public to take a look at this plan and tell us if there’s anything we missed or could do better,” said park manager Todd Farrow, according to the release. “We’re thinking 50 years ahead. The plan needs to be cognizant of how future generations are going to experience the beauty of Golden Gate Canyon State Park.”
