As the next in line for the throne, Prince Charles must travel around the world regularly representing the monarchy. Frequently travelling alongside his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Prince of Wales has perfected the ideal packing list to keep them both content during their journey.

While you might expect the future King’s luggage to be packed full of luxurious clothing and toiletries, Prince Charles also always ensures he packs his own supply of alcohol.

According to insiders, the Prince of Wales is partial to a gin and tonic.

Camilla, meanwhile, is said to be partial to a glass of red wine.

It is likely they pack enough of their favourite beverages to keep both satisfied.

While it may sound like an excessive addition to the suitcase, there is actually a very important reason why the royal couple must pack their own supply of drinks.

Telegraph reporter Gordon Rayner, who has attended 20 royal tours, explained there is actually a major security implication when it comes to Royal Family members accepting alcohol abroad.

Mr Rayner explained: “Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall sometimes take their own alcohol so there’s no danger of their drinks being spiked.

“Their police bodyguard will discreetly carry a bag of their drinks — gin and tonic for him and red wine for her.”

Prince Charles is not the only royal who has a specific list of essentials that must be packed when travelling.

According to insiders, Queen Elizabeth II often packs her own supply of water.

Speaking as part of Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Royal Flight, former Royal Spokesperson Dickie Arbiter revealed: “The only thing the Queen requests to have wherever she is is Malvern Water.

“She likes Malvern water, it’s refreshing and they usually take lots of it with her.”

She is also rather particular about her hot beverages too.

Royal Correspondent Emily Andrews said: “She loves afternoon tea, it’s her favourite meal and she only drinks earl grey.

“So if you were the chef on board the Royal Plane you would definitely make sure that you had an entire supply of earl grey.

“Not just for the plane journey but wherever you were going on tour.”

As well as strict criteria for her onboard refreshments, the Monarch also has some requirements when it comes to the type of food and snacks she enjoys while travelling.

Ms Andrews explained: “She particularly likes egg and cress sandwiches cut in particular ways and for supper, she always liked to start with smoked salmon.”

The Queen does have a few small treats she allows herself.

As author Andrew Morton explains in his 1983 book, Andrew: The Playboy Prince, she occasionally “allows herself one little indulgence – her love of chocolate mints.”
