Queen Elizabeth, 94, Kate Middleton, 39, have very important roles in the Royal Family. Eyes are always on the royal women when they travel, particularly on what they wear. Therefore, it’s hugely important staff in charge of their wardrobes make sure everything goes well when Kate and The Queen go on state visits abroad.

This means minimising the chances of anything embarrassing happening.

One potential moment for awkwardness arises at airports and the gusty winds that might greet royals there when they alight their planes.

The Queen has a fashion hack that prevents her skirts from blowing up and causing a fashion faux pas at such moments.

Telegraph reporter Gordon Rayner, who has attended 20 royal tours, previously revealed that all of the Queen’s skirted are weighted.

These weights will serve to keep her skirts and dresses staying down, no matter what the weather.

“All the Queen’s skirts are weighted to avoid them blowing up as she gets off aeroplanes,” wrote Rayner in the Telegraph.

The attention to the royal wardrobe doesn’t stop there, though.

Senior dresser Angela Kelly is in charge of the Queen’s outside and plans months in advance what Her Majesty will wear on royal tours.

Kelly will make sure that the planned outfits won’t clash with the backdrops and even travel to the destination to check.

It’s not just skirts blowing up that might cause embarrassment when abroad.

It’s also important that the Queen doesn’t wear any colours or patterns which might cause offence in the location.

“[Kelly will] check whether the Queen will be expected to take off her shoes (in a mosque, for example) or might require a headscarf – anything that could lead to trouble if not anticipated,” said Rayner.

Kate Middleton’s clothes may differ in style to the Queen’s, but sartorial hacks are still needed to spare her blushes.

Because the Duchess of Cambridge wears more modern fabrics which can be lighter and floatier, a slightly different technique needs to be used.

Consequently, Kate is said to wear a certain type of underwear to control their hems.

According to Cosmopolitan, etiquette expert Myka Meier said: “Often [she] wears body suits and clothes that actually increase static so it’s much harder for something to fly up.

“So you have an undergarment that is almost like a body suit that is one tactic that is used.”

She added: “If you do not use weights or heavy weighted material, you make sure it will not fly up by wearing undergarments that keep the fabrics connect to your body.”

This isn’t the only fashion hack that Kate uses. It has been revealed the Duchess of Cambridge wears tights with sticky pads on the bottom in order to avoid her shoes falling off mid-way through an engagement.

Kate has been seen wearing John Lewis tights with built-in sticky pads so there is no risk of slipping.

She has been seen wearing the non-slip tights since 2011, and they come in a variety of shades, including nude, black and tan.
