Ryanair passenger notices missing row on planes – and it isn’t an accident

A Ryanair passenger has shared something very odd he discovered about the flight he was on – and it turns out other planes have the same weird feature.

Tom Cutter was onboard his flight when it came to his attention that the plane was missing a row.

In pictures he shared online, row 13 was missing between rows 12 and 14.

Cutter questioned why there was no row 13 and dubbed it "bizarre".

Alongside the snaps, he wrote: "Bizarre how there is no row 13 on Ryanair flights. Why ever not? Superstition? Surely not!"

Thankfully, a Ryanair spokesperson confirmed the reason why.

The spokesperson told The Sun it is an "American manufacturing tradition".

Other companies including Air France and Iberia also do not have a row 13 on their planes.

While airline Lufthansa does not have a row 13 or 17.

The number 13 for many western cultures is viewed as unlucky – not exactly the row you want to be sat in if anything were to go down.

Similarly, the number 17 is also viewed as unlucky because written out as a Roman numeral XVII.

Its anagram VIXI roughly means "my life is over" in Latin.

Lufthansa explained why it does not have any seats for 13 or 17.

On its website, it states: "In some cultures, the number 13 is considered unlucky.

"That is why there is no row 13 in planes, because we respect the superstition. That way nobody who thinks that the number 13 is unlucky has to sit in that row.

"In some countries, for example Italy and Brazil, the typical unlucky number is 17 and not 13.

"Seeing as Lufthansa welcomes a lot of international passengers, we try to consider as many of these specific cultural beliefs as possible."
