Plans to open a brand new 29.5-hectare theme park have passed the first test of “Planning Inspectorate” which means the UK is well on its way to welcoming a new attraction in 2024. The London Resort, set to open in Kent, will boast an array of magical new themed lands, rides and rollercoasters, as well as an on-site hotel, music venue and sports bar.

Located near Gravesham, Dartford and Thurrock, the theme park will span 535-acres which is the equivalent of 136 Wembley Stadiums.

If the theme park is given full consent by the Government, the building could begin in 2022. Eventually, plans detail two parks – the second of which will open in 2029.

Made up of “six lands” the theme park will work in partnership with EDG energy to be “the most sustainable, major theme park destination in the world.”

Though developers are yet to reveal the full line up of rides and attractions visitors can expect, a series of visuals hint at “next-generation” rides – including a rumoured eight giant rollercoasters.

The images also show what appears to be a ferris wheel in the style of the London Eye, as well as stadiums emblazoned with the British and French flags.

The park will also boast its own castle, similar to the centre-point of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, as well as what appears to be a hot air balloon ride.

The castle has not been confirmed for certain, however, in a 2020 virtual conference, chief executive PY Gerbeau hinted at its creation.

He said: “You press a window of where the castle is going to be – if there is a castle, not to confirm!”

Guests visiting from all around the world will also be able to make the most of the onsite accommodation.

According to design plans, there will be one 800-room hotel, complete with a “four-story atrium”, along with three more hotels made up of 1,500 rooms, 850 rooms and 400 rooms.

Plans also set out a “two-storey Borough Market” and a 3,000 seat colosseum.

To top it off, creators also plan to develop a water park with “interlinked swimming pools”, wave machines and a series of water slides.

Given the UK’s unpredictable weather, 70 percent of this will be covered.

According to plans set out in 2019, The London Resort will be made up of six lands.

The entrance to The London Resort will be via a grand plaza that leads visitors and hotel guests through ‘The High Street’, packed full of shops, restaurants, hotels, a Convention Centre and the waterpark.

Visitors will start their journey in The Studios, a gritty, modern-day warehouse district that practically roars with the exhilarating thrills of big, blockbuster features. The park’s creators cite “explosive action, high-octane car chases and high-stakes espionage” as part of the experience.

To the north lies The Woods, which makes the most of fairytale imagery and “bedtime stories”.

From the Woods, the journey continues through the ages into The Kingdom, an immersive realm of swords, sorcery, dragons & legend based on Englands myths and legends.

The land of The Isles will be made up of giant creatures, beasts and adventures. Developers promise “fantastic jaw-dropping architecture will combine with magnificent rides and 21st-century technology.”

Moving onwards, guests can find themselves entering The Jungle, an array of mystery and treetops.

Finally, Starport promises to be a “23rd-century landing zone”, boasting sci-fi adventures and “out of this world” possibilities.

The resort is being built in partnership with the BBC, ITV Studios and Paramount Pictures.

It will also have its own dedicated access road from the A2, as well as easy transport links to Ebbsfleet International station.

The enquiry and validation process for the park’s approval is expected to take between 12 and 18 months.

“We have always said our ambition is to build much more than just a theme park,” commented CEO of London Resort Company Holdings PY Gerbeau.

“It will be a beacon of world-class entertainment and experiences within a world-leading sustainable environment.

“We are not there yet by a long way and we, of course, are very much looking forward to working with the Planning Inspectorate over the coming months.

“But from where we were not even eighteen months ago, today is a game-changer and a very special day to celebrate.”
