Spanish city just 1.5 hours from Seville is a must-see this summer

Spain has so much to offer in the warmest months of the year, from coastal beach getaways to cultural city breaks. But with so many places to choose from, Britons are spoilt for choice when it comes to sourcing the perfect holiday. While Granada and Malaga are two of the most popular spots in the country’s Andalucia region, avid travellers have taken to TikTok to share why Cádiz is the must-see destination for 2023.

Located in the South West of Spain, Cádiz is a city and port that makes up one of eight autonomous communities in Andalusia.

And according to TikTok travel expert @travelxbritt, it’s not to be missed by Britons looking for a Spanish getaway this summer.

In a recent video on her profile, she said: “Add Cádiz to your travel bucket list. It’s an amazing one for beaches and seafood.”

Despite being just a one-and-a-half-hour train journey from its well-known neighbour, Seville, the city has been described as a “magical” and “laid back” destination by fellow travellers.

Many of them still have fleets in operation today and are responsible for supplying some of the region’s best seafood.

Between Cadiz and Tarifa, tourists will find one of Andalucia’s most unspoilt coastlines, populated by small resorts that sit alongside pristine sandy beaches.

According to an expert at Visit Spain, Conila and Rota are not to be missed by visitors looking for authentic insight into the region.

They said: “Conil is a beautiful white village with clear blue water. There are lots of amazing restaurants and a great nightlife scene for young people.

“Rota has the most amazing sunsets and lots of fun beach bars to grab a drink.”

While pizza may not seem like the most obvious cuisine to enjoy in Spain, the travel expert noted that it is famous for its American-style slices. The local cuisine was inspired by the nearby US naval base.

But one of the best things to do in Rota is to take a walk on the sunset nature trail to absorb the stunning views.

Other things to do in Cádiz include visiting the many theatres in the city, including the Gran Teatro Falla, located in the Plaza Fragela.

The Teatro Romano is a small museum which is free to visit and takes visitors through a couple of exhibition rooms with displays outlining the history of the region.

Additionally, the cathedral and food market, which are in the heart of Cádiz, should be on the list for visitors.

But for the best views, the Torre Tavira is the ideal spot for tourists wanting to capture a panoramic snapshot of the beach city.

There are three airports that can take visitors close to Cádiz – Jerez de la Frontera Airport, Seville Airport and Malaga Airport.

According to the latest Skyscanner data, return flights can be booked for as little as £77 from all London airports to Seville (SVQ).

This is for trips departing on May 15 and returning on May 22, 2023, when prices are at their lowest.

Last-minute departures from London to Seville at the end of April can be purchased for even less, at just £52 with Ryanair.
