The expert travel team at Skyscanner have found this year’s most popular holiday destinations. The winning destination is a sunny spot in Spain.

Malaga was this year’s most popular summer holiday destination according to new research from Skyscanner.
The gorgeous Spanish city is also one of the cheapest destinations to fly to in August making it a great choice for a bargain break in the sun.
While Malaga city is packed with attractions including the Picasso Museum, it’s also very close to some of the Costa del Sol’s most gorgeous beaches.
Britons will be able to sample some of Spain’s best seafood in the southern region which is almost guaranteed to have good weather.

Spain dominated the list with Barcelona and Alicante landing in second and third place in the rankings.
Tourists heading to Barcelona will be able to enjoy cocktails in the sun and admire some of Gaudi’s most spectacular architecture.
At La Boqueria food market tourists will be able to try some local delicacies as well as treats hailing from all over Spain.
Alicante is a leading destination in Spain’s Costa Blanca and is also the best airport to reach popular resorts such as Benidorm.
A little closer to home, Dublin was the fourth most popular destination for a summer holiday but tourists might find accommodation very expensive in the Irish capital.
New York grabbed fifth place on the list and is another pricey destination for British tourists this year.
A cheaper choice might be Istanbul, number eight on Skyscanner’s list, as the British pound is fairly strong against the Turkish lira.
Faro, the jewel of Portugal’s Algarve coast, is another good value destination with almost guaranteed sunshine.
Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s trends and destination expert, said: “There are great deals for those who know how to shop around and remaining flexible on times and destinations will ultimately get savvy travellers the best prices.”
The team recommends checking flight prices for the whole month to find the cheapest day to travel to a destination.
British tourists can also set a price alert on Skyscanner or another flight comparison site to monitor the cost of their flight.
Other popular destinations for Britons included Sydney, Bangkok, Orlando and Singapore with Melbourne and Perth also making the list.
