Stunning UK cities with the cheapest Airbnb stays for summer under £130 a night

A holiday to Aberdeen in Scotland has been named most affordable UK staycation destination if you're after Airbnb stays.

A new study revealed it as the UK city with the cheapest average price for a night's stay, but it also had a high percentage of reviews with 4.5 stars or more.

Many Brits are looking to save money this summer as the Cost of Living crisis sees energy and petrol prices soar and inflation skyrocket.

Plus, those who choose to go on holiday have been faced with chaos at the airports, lost bags, cancellations and delays.

Insurtech and Airbnb specialist company Pikl Insurance, have analysed Airbnb data to discover the most affordable and best rated places to visit this July and August in the UK.

So you can enjoy a summer break without needing to hop on a plane and that won't break your wallet.

The data revealed the top 10 cheapest cities to visit, alongside their best rated attractions, so you can decide which budget city break spot might suit you. Check them out below…


Aberdeen

Aberdeen is known for its cultural tours, coastal walks, and castle properties.

A great city for a mix of modern and historical elements, Aberdeen has everything from bustling bars and clubs, to museums and history tours.

The average nightly price was £97 with 81% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

St Asaph

St Asaph is a great getaway for those needing a break from busy inner-city life.

With lovely waterside walks and plenty of pubs, this is a great destination for those wanting a more quiet and traditional staycation.

The average nightly price was £120 with 86% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Kingston Upon Hull

Kingston Upon Hull was 2017’s UK City of Culture, making it clear that this city is a hub of interesting attractions; from museums to historical landmarks.

Home to the Streetlife Museum of Transport and award-winning aquarium ‘The Deep’, Kingston Upon Hull is great for an educational family trip.

The average nightly price was £104 with 72% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Lancaster

While most visit Lancaster as a base to explore nearby areas, such as the Lake District, the city itself has lots to offer. Lancaster’s River Lune provides plenty of peaceful riverside walks, and the city’s popular food scene has lots of choice for any self-proclaimed foodies.

Airbnb prices came to an average £124 per night, with 86% of homes having a rating of at least 4.5.

Lincoln

The beautiful city of Lincoln is any history fan's ideal staycation destination.

The city is full of classic cobbled lanes, monuments from medieval times, stunning gardens, and the famous Lincoln cathedral. It also boasts an array of pubs, bars and restaurants, alongside plenty of independent shopping.

The average nightly price was £124 with 86% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Londonderry

Whilst it may take those in England and Scotland a flight to get there, those based in Northern Ireland should try a trip to Londonderry this summer.

Affordable accommodation and the location of hit Channel 4 sitcom ‘Derry Girls’, there’s plenty of long walks and sightseeing to be done in Londonderry.

The average nightly price was £122 with 87% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Lincoln

The beautiful city of Lincoln is any history fan's ideal staycation destination. The city is full of classic cobbled lanes, monuments from medieval times, stunning gardens, and the famous Lincoln cathedral. It also boasts an array of pubs, bars and restaurants, alongside plenty of independent shopping.

The average nightly price was £123 with 84% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Preston

The perfect place to unwind, the city of Preston perfectly combines modern and traditional with great shopping centres to traditional countryside walks and various museums and art galleries.

The average nightly price was £120 with 73% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Wakefield

Just around the corner from Leeds, Wakefield is a great place to act as a base for day-trips to Leeds, but also boasts a selection of family friendly activities and things to do of its own.

Home to the National Coal Mining Museum and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, there’s lots to take in for kids and adults alike.

The average nightly price was £126 with 77% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Leeds

Fantastic for a young group of friends or a couple, this West Yorkshire city boasts excellent nightlife, from 5-star clubs to award-winning bars and restaurants.

Leeds has an endless amount of things to do including escape rooms, bowling alleys, riverboat meals, and even ghost hunting.

The average nightly price was £124 with 77% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.

Leicester

Full of pubs, parks and a whole lot of history, Leicester is another affordable family friendly city-break you won’t want to miss out on.

You can visit King Richard III’s final resting place, The National Space Centre, and the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery all in a day or spread them out throughout your stay.

The city is also home to the popular ‘Curve Theatre’ and has plenty of parks for sunny day walks.

The average nightly price was £119 with 53% of properties having a rating of 4.5 or more.
