Thai hotel launches rooms from 2p a night to boost tourism

Thailand is known for offering up some great bargain stays, but one hotel has seriously upped the stakes with rooms for just 2p a night.

Yep – you read that right; that's just 2p. Oh, and they will even throw in some dinner vouchers so you can treat yourself at their restaurant too.

The Harmonize Hotel in Chiang Mai has slashed prices as part of a special discount, working with Thai tour operators at Robin Hood Application and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, in a bid to help boost visitor numbers during the slower seasons.

To make use of the deal you'll need to book your room by August 7 using the Robinhoos Travel app, reports local media.

If you don't snap up one of the discounted rooms, there's no need to miss out on bargains completely.

Even without the deals, the hotel offers stays starting from £12 a night on Booking.com so there's still ample opportunity to get a bargain.

Earlier this year, the country eased its Covid entry rules for Brits, which included scrapping its Thailand Pass registration scheme as well as mandatory US$10,000 (£8,200) health insurance.

However, Brits will still need to show proof of either full Covid vaccination, or a negative Covid PCR test result taken within 72 hours before departure. This will be checked both before you board your flight, and also once you arrive in Thailand.

Speaking of the eased restrictions earlier this year the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand London Sadudee Sangnil said: "This is the news we have been waiting to share.

"The removal of the online Thailand Pass application simplifies travel to Thailand once again and removes what was a barrier to travel for some.

"Although bookings to Thailand have considerably picked up in the last few months, the removal of pre-departure requirements makes Thailand accessible to everyone once more.

"I am confident travel demand will resume in Q4 this year through to Q1 in 2023 and I am excited by the immediate potential for summer travel with the removal of the Thailand Pass."
