The best Christmas markets in Europe have been named. Holidaymakers who want to visit one of the festive attractions are spoiled for choice, both in the UK and overseas.
The best Christmas market in Europe is in Edinburgh.
Running since 1999, the Edinburgh Christmas market is also the longest market in Europe, taking place from November 20 to January 4.
While the market is going ahead this year, there have been some concerns over the popularity of the market.
With the rise of the Omicron Covid variant, a City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “We continue to monitor announcements from the Scottish Government, Health Protection Scotland and other partners to ensure we manage this developing situation as effectively as possible.”
The second best Christmas market in Europe was also in the UK.
Manchester came second and beat Prague, which came third on the list.
On Tripadvisor, Jo W said: “We really enjoyed exploring Manchester Christmas markets this year.
“There were plenty of different stalls to enjoy. Cardiff Christmas market is tiny in comparison.
“We liked them being spread across different areas. It gave you a chance to sightsee and collect your thoughts between each area.
“There were different foreign food stalls also, other than the bratwurst stalls, which was good.”
In fourth place was another UK market.
Birmingham beat Tallinn in Estonia, which rounded up the top five.
Joseph Spendlove wrote: “If you want to enjoy a good atmosphere outdoors and freshly made crepes, churros, and mulled wine then this is the place for you.”
The UK markets did amazingly well on the European list of best Christmas markets.
For most popular markets on social media, Edinburgh took the crown, followed by Bath and Strasbourg in France.
The most popular markets according to Google were all in the UK, with Manchester, Edinburgh and York taking the top three spots.
