Britons dreaming of overseas shores may wonder where the best country for expats is. Some of the most popular countries for British expats are Spain and France, but neither of these European countries made the list.

InterNations published its 2021 list of the best countries in the world for expats.

And coming top was Taiwan.

Beating the other 58 countries, Taiwan took the top spot for the third year in a row.

First for quality of life and working abroad, Taiwan seemed to only have positives.

Most expats are happy with their jobs, feel secure in their careers and have confidence in the local economy.

Expats in Taiwan are also happy with life in general, with 80 percent content about where they are.

Taiwan was also found to be affordable, and the medical care quality was great, according to a staggering 96 percent of expats.

One expat said: “The Taiwanese healthcare system truly considers people as human beings instead of mere numbers.”

Taiwan was also lauded for its safety, with not a single expat feeling personally unsafe in the country.

Most expats thought it was easy to make friends and Taiwan topped the rankings for friendliness.

But not everything was perfect in Taiwan either, with Facebook user Joseph Nickalo saying: “I was surprised by how many businesses turn down a person simply because they don’t want a foreigner. I guess they think we are too much trouble. I think that’s illegal in the US so I just wasn’t expecting it, but I get it I guess.”

The second best country for expats was Mexico.

While the country was at the bottom when it came to safety and security, it more than made up for it with “the culture and friendliness of the local people”.

In third place was Costa Rica.

The country was found to be great for its quality of life, friendliness, and natural environment.

It all contributed to 88 percent of expats being happy with their lives in Costa Rica.

However, Costa Rica was being let down by its transport system.

One expat said: “Traffic is terrible because of poor drivers, bad roads, and insufficient infrastructure.”
