What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

This truly depends on the guests. If they are honeymooners and want more privacy and a plunge pool, I suggest the villa category. This is also a favorite choice of our guests because the villa is both the most spacious and offers a beautiful view of the ocean and the incredible historic Pitons. If they want the’toes in the sand’ feeling, I suggest the Beachfront Bungalow, which offers the white sands and water just steps from their room. If you are a family or a party of friends then the residences are perfect for your trip as they are more spacious, multi-room and have everything you need under one roof.

Not only do the luxury villas boast space, privacy and unobstructed views of the Caribbean, but they also come with a personalized butler service, which is at the guests disposal should they need anything.

How much does it cost per night?

Rates vary based on season and accommodation type. They can range from the high $400’s to $20,000 per night, depending on the choice of where to stay on the property (with the Villas and Residences on the more expensive end).

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

Guests who come to stay with us are often well-traveled—they expect the luxury experience, complete with incredible service and a high-quality culinary program. Those who appreciate the finer details (nestled in a luxurious setting) on a historic island, will surely enjoy the resort. The general atmosphere of the resort is laid back, but there’s also a feeling that all things lavish are at your fingertips. And because the property is immersed amongst the famous Pitons, those who appreciate nature will surely find joy around every corner of the property.

What feeling about the region do you hope to impart to guests during their stay?

The Soufriere area feels like a village. It’s where guests can experience the history and culture of St. Lucia. The friendliness and hospitable nature of the south of the island is felt by every guest when they venture off into town.

What is one thing about the hotel that you think first-time visitors will find surprising?

Photos just don’t do the beauty of the resort—and the island—justice. The view between the two Majestic Pitons and the reefs directly off the shoreline of Sugar Beach are spectacular. Guests are always in awe of the picturesque setting that surrounds the resort.

What do you think makes the hotel unique and distinguishes it from other hotels in the area?

Beyond the incredible setting and location, Sugar Beach stands out as it offers the only white sand beach in the area. The property can accommodate couples, families, and small groups with the multi-bedroom units. Every venue on property offers guests a totally unique experience—from the lavish accommodations to the unique dining outlets. The Rainforest Spa is also especially unique as it’s surrounded by the island’s natural beauty that is unmatched.

Tell us about the history of the hotel and how are you bringing that heritage into the post-pandemic world?

The resort used to function as an 18th century sugar plantation. Our accommodations are built over a vast property spread over 100 acres that preserve and celebrate this history. As the the property is vast and sprawling, our accommodations are perfect for physical distancing.

What do you think gives the hotel such a unique identity?

It doesn’t get more unique that being situated between the Gros and Petit Pitons. The Pitons are 1 of only 19 UNESCO World Heritage sites found in the Caribbean! As a result the resort land and sea are protected under their laws, which helps the environment and wildlife to thrive in our surrounding vicinity.

What are the best activities/must-see/do/eat when staying with you?

Calling all adventurers! We suggest our outdoorsy visitors hike the Gros Piton and go to the Sulphur Springs. But, snorkeling and boating are a few of our most popular activities. You must visit the only drive-in volcano and hike the Gros Piton (which our ancestors worshipped as the God of Fire, Thunder, and Rain). Snorkeling and night snorkeling are a few of our guests’ favorite activities on property. The locals favor the Creole style food with a refreshing Piton Beer or local rum drink—everyone should try that while they are here. We also suggest tucking into the national dish of green figs and saltfish—it is a must eat!
