Christmas is a great time to spend with family, celebrate and eat plenty of food. Cities all over the country have been decked out in their best Christmas decorations and have been putting on events all month.
With Christmas finally here, the best cities in the UK for Christmas celebrations have been named.
In the top spot was York.
The city goes all out for Christmas, and events don’t end on Christmas Day either.
The Winter Village at York Minster is on until January 6 and Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland until January 9.
On Tripadvisor, Daniel S said: “Busy time of year with the Christmas markets but the atmosphere around York was a real buzz.”
It was followed by Edinburgh in second place and Oxford and Wrexham in joint third place.
Wrexham’s weather catapulted the city in the top three, even if the city was not the best for attractions.
Looking at access to toy shops, sweet shops and child-friendly attractions, the study by OVO Network analysed the best Christmas cities in the UK.
They also took into consideration access to Santa’s Grotto and the likelihood of “festive weather”.
York had over 30 attractions per 10,000 children.
It also has four sweet shops and five toy shops per 10,000 children, making the city one of the best places to be for Christmas.
Incredibly, London was found to have the fewest number of toy stores per 10,000 kids.
It also had one of the worst access to Santa.
The best city for toys was Wrexham, followed by Dundee and Norwich.
Sweet shops’ hotspots were Bolton, York and Cambridge.
For kids’ attractions, York, Londonderry and Edinburgh made up the top three cities in the UK.
