There are many beautiful beaches in the UK and Britons may wish to go on a seaside holiday this winter. Sun and heat may not be part of a winter beach holiday in the UK, but Britons are still looking for the best beaches to go to this season.

Holiday experts at Holiday Cottages have named the best beaches in the UK.

Coming top was Clevedon beach in Somerset.

The pebble and sand beach is a great place to go in winter.

It has a pier and holidaymakers in search of activities can undertake one of the walking routes around Clevedon.

Shannon Keary, Digital PR Manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, said: “Our wonderful beaches shouldn’t just be reserved for summer, as they also make a great winter destination for brisk walks and stunning scenery right on our doorstep.

“Why not soak up some winter sun and adventure along the sandy shores through the quieter months and enjoy the calming nature of the coast?”

Coming second on the list was Ayr beach in Scotland.

With the peaks of the Isle of Arran as a backdrop, the fine sand beach is a picturesque destination.

On Tripadvisor, Susie C said: “Beautiful spotless beach. Vast when the tide is out.”

In third place was Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex.

Home to the second-longest pier in the UK, Walton-on-the-Naze has over a thousand pastel coloured beach huts.

MalcH wrote: “Went for a really nice walk along the beach, which I have to say is very clean and tidy.

“Lovely to see two young children collecting the shells that had washed up from the sea.”

At number four was Broadstairs in Kent.

Broadstairs has seven beaches and bays and is a popular holiday destination in summer.

It’s great in winter too, with the towering cliffs offering great views.

In fifth place was Mudeford Sandbank beach in Dorset, which offers beautiful walks.

Michael B said: “Took the little open-air ferry boat from Mudeford quay across the sound to Mudeford beach. Was a little breezy but refreshing, causing the little boats off the beach at anchor to bob around.

“Walking around the spit was interesting as there was a storm brewing, and we got to see a rainbow.”

The last beachy destination on the list was Brixham in Devon.

The town of Brixham has a famous fish market and is located on the English Riviera.
