If you’re a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express cardholder and you’re making a concerted effort to build up the points stockpile that’s accrued while you’ve been at home, the latest limited-time offer will be music to your ears. Meant to maximize your summer travel spending, it features increased points earnings on go-to travel purchases like rental cars, flights, and vacation home bookings through Homes & Villas by Marriott International.
Between July 14 and September 15, eligible car rentals purchased directly from select rental companies, flights booked directly with airlines, gas purchased at U.S. gas stations, and transit purchases like taxis, parking, trains, and buses can earn six Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent (up from four points per dollar). Existing cardholders just need to enroll on the AmEx site to earn up to 10,000 points in each of those categories (for a total of 40,000 points) through September 15.
Beyond the summer, Bonvoy Brilliant cardholders can earn up to 10 points per dollar (up from 6) on Homes & Villas by Marriott International rental bookings up to $7,500 between June 1 and December 31 (enrollment required, terms apply). (If you need some suggestions on what to book, you can check out a few of our Homes & Villas favorites.)
All other eligible purchases will continue to earn the usual two points per dollar.
While new cardholders won’t be able to get in on the limited-time points bump, there’s a decent welcome bonus available for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card (see rates and fees). Travelers who spend $3,000 within three months of account opening can earn 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points. Cardholders can also earn up to $200 in statement credits to use towards eligible purchases at U.S. restaurants within the first six months. Other perks include up to $300 in statement credits each year for eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, like the Miami Beach Edition or the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. Plus, they also receive a free night every year after the card account’s anniversary and they get unlimited airport lounge visits when enrolled in Priority Pass Select membership (enrollment required, terms apply). Note that the card does come with a $450 annual fee (see rates and fees), but if you take advantage of the statement credits throughout the year, you’ll be on track to save money.
