The UK’s best winter staycations to beat the seasonal blues
Planning a winter holiday? Some of the best places to spend the winter season are right here in the UK.
The staycation experts at Sykes Holiday Cottages have named the best destinations in the UK for a winter break.
But this year the team has focused on destinations that have the warmest winter temperatures.
Looking at data from the Met Office, the team found beautiful winter spots with average temperatures of eight degrees and above in December.

Bude, Cornwall
A seaside town on the north Cornish coast, Bude is known for its gorgeous beaches and boutique independent shops. Brave swimmers can take a dip in the Bude Sea Pool, a natural tidal pool ideal for wild swimming.
Bude is also home to a rather unusual attraction that unexpectedly rose to the top on Tripadvisor.
Slapton, Devon
Another seaside spot, Slapton sits within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Slapton Sands, a shingle beach, is the ideal place for a wintery stroll.
Both seaside towns enjoy average temperatures of 10 degrees in December making them the ideal mild winter stay.

Ventnor, Isle of Wight
A resort town on the pretty Isle of Wight, Ventnor enjoys average December temperatures of nine degrees. The charming spot has plenty of vintage and antique shops, the ideal way to while away a rainy day.
The Victorian town is also home to some of Britain’s best seafood and has a few cosy cafes serving up cream teas.
Windsor, Berkshire
Not feeling the beach? Why not head to Windsor, which has average temperatures of eight degrees in December. The Castle is the town’s main attraction and a must-see for royal fans.
Swaffham, Norfolk
A pretty market town, Swaffham’s Georgian buildings are particularly picturesque in the frosty weather. Check out the local history at Swaffham Museum or explore the Oxburgh Estate.
