While the street is the site of much of the city’s history, now it’s a shopping destination packed with tourist shops.

Although some tourists were less than impressed, others thought the Royal Mile couldn’t be missed despite the crowds.

A tourist ‘RobLTulsa’ wrote: “One of the prettiest spots in the world. No visit to Scotland would be complete without a stroll along this area.”

Another ‘Kelly21830’ said: “Although the Royal Mile is lined with tourist shops, there’s so much history along there that you want to pick up souvenirs to remind you of what you discovered!”

London had two top attractions in the top 10, the London Eye and Covent Garden both had over 100 reviews describing them as tourist traps.

As a ticketed attraction, tourists should always get a good view of the capital from its pods but may have to queue for a while to gain entry.

Covent Garden is famed for its boutique shops and street performers but tourists may find themselves jostling with other visitors for space.

Cornwall’s Land End Landmark marks the furthest point of the UK and is a popular photo spot.

York’s Shambles are one of the city’s top attractions but were too touristy for some visitors who wanted a calmer experience.

Stonehenge also made the list which isn’t too surprising seeing as it’s one of the UK’s most popular attractions.

The Cavern Club famed for its connections with the Beatles was also described as a tourist trap.

Another Edinburgh hotspot also made the list with 95 reviews describing The Witchery By The Castle as a tourist trap.
