The UK’s prettiest winter walk has the ‘most beautiful coastline in the world’
Feeling the Christmas spirit? Despite the dreary weather outside, there’s nothing like quite a winter walk.
But where are the best places to explore during the winter season?
The National Trust protects some of the UK’s most special spots from stately homes to beaches and forests.
This year, the National Trust team have shared the best places to visit during winter and there’s a great range to choose from.
From a Welsh paradise with the “most beautiful coastline in the world” to a stately home with a specially designed winter garden, the Trust has walks for every ability.

Stackpole, Pembrokeshire
A spokesperson said: “Stackpole is both a listed designed landscape and an internationally important nature reserve.
“Footpaths stretch down from the former grand estate Stackpole Court, across dramatic cliffs to some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, including Broad Haven South, Barafundle Bay and Stackpole Quay.”
The Bosherston Lily Ponds trail is a wildlife-rich one mile route while the Stackpole wildlife trail is a six mile circular route for those who want something a little longer.

Saltram, Devon
Based on the outskirts of Plymouth, Saltram overlooks the River Plym and is set in a rolling landscape park.
The paths on the estate are generally flat although there are some hilly areas for walkers looking for more of a challenge.
A spokesperson said: “Saltram’s one mile estate boundary walk is a great way to stretch your legs and walk along buggy friendly paths towards the woods with views of the estuary. “Why not explore the quieter ‘Dell walk’ if you would like to venture into the estate a bit further on your adventures.”
Polesden Lacey, Surrey
A National Trust spokesperson said: “In the Surrey Hills, just 25 miles from London, Polesden Lacey is ideal for spending time with family and friends.
“The genius of the garden is its setting with glorious views of Ranmore Common and rolling parkland. The Graham Stuart designed Winter Garden is filled with colour in January and February.”
Polesden Lacey has four routes which vary in difficulty and length but all with gorgeous views of the Surrey Hills.
