The ultimate Hobbit hideaway turns Lord of the Rings dream into reality

Transport yourself to the pages of a J.R.R Tolkein novel with this eco-designed Hobbit hideaway in Scotland.

Nestled at the foot of a Highlands mountain, those seeking relaxation can enjoy a cosy night under the stars in absolute comfort while enjoying the splendour of rural Scotland and its dazzling skies.

Inspired by the Hobbit habitats from Lord Of The Rings the Airbnb stay – which is now called Hideaway Under the Stars – will take you to a magical place.

The enchanting and award-winning hideaway fits six people and is set in rural Moray at the foothills of Ben Rinnes with spectacular views from every window.

It is made from locally-sourced materials including straw bales, stone, clay, and earth and the home has numerous quirky design touches to make your stay magical.

It has a grass roof, a rustic snuggle chair beside the fire and a magnificent roof dome through which you can view the twinkling night sky.

Inside, there's excellent attention to detail, with a double bedroom and two quirky bunks beds – all equipped with bamboo fibre mattresses – and two futons with bamboo screens to take care of any extra guests.

There’s a cosy fireplace, space to hang your clothes and fairy lights.

The comfort doesn’t end there, as there's also a fully fitted bathroom with a roomy shower to enjoy after a hard day on the hills or hitting the local whisky trail.

“Our pet and family-friendly Hideaway was created as a unique holiday home with a very close connection to the natural world.

“Multi-award-winning for its environmental credentials, it was built to invoke total relaxation with its round shape, use of natural materials, and open-plan design to bring families and friends effortlessly together under a spectacular roof dome.

“You are welcomed with a healthy treat, and we supply firewood, towels, cruelty-free soaps and cleaning products, cooking basics and a variety of fairtrade beverages.”

Guests have access to free unlimited wifi and a Bluetooth speaker as well as their own private garden with BBQ, picnic tables and outdoor games.

They also have full access to the wider garden, which includes wide-open spaces to run and play including a sensory play den, swings and a quirky seesaw, a fire pit, and their Garden of Eat’n where you can pick your own organic, fresh and seasonal produce for dinner.

“You can experience the total lack of air, noise, and light pollution and even enjoy a spot of stargazing with our Dobsonian telescope,” they wrote.

“You are surrounded by wildlife and may spot a few passing deer, a multitude of birds, or even an otter swimming down the stream. Be prepared to be amazed!

“Venture down to the bottom of the garden where you will discover a totally private and enchanting Fairy Glen with a bubbling brook, mini waterfalls, hidden fairies, and magical fairy pools for those brave enough to take a refreshing dip!

“Discover the wildlife pond, a mud kitchen, the tyre swing over the stream, and our willow wigwam (currently being converted into a Temazcal, an ancient type of Mexican sauna), or simply enjoy the freedom to run, play, and explore the beauty of the natural surroundings.”

The hosts recommend enjoying the peace and tranquillity under the dark skies, toasting marshmallows by the fire pit with a cup of hot chocolate or some Speyside whisky.
