Sadly many top destinations around the world have been affected by overtourism, pollution and deforestation. However, there are a few countries that remain relatively unspoilt.
The travel expert team at Inghams analysed Instagram posts about destinations around the world to find which had the most mentions of “unspoilt”.
Topping the list was Iceland, frequently crowned one of the world’s safest countries, and home to some incredible sites of natural beauty.
A leading destination for the Northern Lights, waterfalls and volcanoes, Iceland is also home to the world’s most beautiful beach, according to Tripadvisor.

One of Iceland’s top rated attractions is the waterfall, Seljalandfoss, a 200 feet cascade which tourists can even walk behind. A tourist ‘SmileyMaia’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Incredible area and you get to see four stunning waterfalls.”
However, while Iceland might be one of Europe’s most unspoilt destinations, it’s not without troubles. The country recently announced it might introduce a tourist tax to combat overtourism.
Many of the country’s top sites receive a huge number of tourists with the Blue Lagoon and Seljalandfoss some of the most visited attractions.
Its natural attractions can also be dangerous and tourists visiting one of Iceland’s beaches were recently criticised for getting far too close to the water.
Ireland, Cyprus and Greece were the other European countries to make the list while Australia took second place in the rankings.
Peru was also named as one of the world’s most unspoilt countries and in good news for tourists, the South American country recently relaxed its tight restrictions on the number of people who can visit historic site, Machu Pichhu.
