Many of us will be choosing staycations instead of holidays abroad when lockdown lifts.
So where are people planning to head when it’s safe to travel again?
Airbnb has listed its most wish-listed rental properties in the UK – from a luxurious woodland home to a cabin with an outdoor hot tub.
The “Pigsty” in Winchester took the hotspot, with owner Naomi gushing: "We’ve created Winchester’s first luxury woodland hideaway and have had so many great reviews already. The most rewarding part of Hosting on Airbnb – when restrictions allow, of course – is meeting and welcoming new guests to our beautiful farm and being able to earn extra money through sharing our space."
And an Airbnb spokesperson added: "With so many of us set to staycation in the UK this year, there’s more opportunity than ever before for Brits to capitalise on increased demand and turn their homes into income engines.
“As we prepare to be able to travel once again, where previously, our Most Wishlisted homes have been dominated by far-flung and exotic destinations, this year it’s all about the rural retreats to explore on domestic shores."
So what are the most wishlisted Airbnbs in Britain?
1. The Pigsty, Winchester
As its name would suggest, this woodland hideaway is located on a working farm.
The cabin has one bedroom so is great for solo travellers or couples wanting a romantic getaway.
It is apparently “in a secluded corner with minimal disturbance” but you still get “beautiful views of Vale Farm”.
The Pigsty is the best of both worlds as the Winchester location offers countryside tranquility with nearby amenities.
It is just 2.5 miles away from the historic centre of Winchester, which boasts plenty of restaurants, breweries, gardens and museums.
2. The Willow, Pembrokeshire
Want the camping experience without all the mud and back pains of snoozing in a sleeping bag?
You might want to try this glamping experience instead.
The Willow caters to up to four people and is “set in a very private location with stunning countryside views”.
Guests get a chance to be at one with nature, while still having all the luxuries they get at home – and more.
There’s a full kitchen, two smart TVs, WiFi and a big decked area outside with a hot tub.
You’ve also got a grassy garden to chill out in. Bliss.
3. Twmbarlwm Luxury Retreat, Gwent
This three bedroom farm stay can accommodate four guests.
According to the Airbnb listing it’s “built discretely into the hills, this cabin has been crafted for a relaxing vacation”.
Hosts promise a “peaceful nights sleep” as there’s little chance of being disturbed by any neighbours.
As well as getting picturesque views, guests can kick back in a hot tub or sit by the fire.
They may also want to explore the great outdoors by following some of the hiking and mountain biking trails nearby.
4. The Pond and Stars Cabin, Abergele
This unique pond cabin has one bedroom that can sleep two guests.
It’s described as “a slice of paradise”.
The listing adds: “You can enjoy relaxing on your very own porch swing or admire the amazing views of rolling fields & wildlife right from bed.
“The cabin is perfect for couples wanting a romantic & relaxing getaway or solo adventurers who need time to relax and unwind in an unique space.”
5. Traditional Log Cabin On The Lake, Kent
If you’re looking for a cosy retreat in the countryside, this traditional log cabin would be the perfect fit.
The romantic pod, which sleeps two people, is tucked away in an area of natural outstanding beauty.
It overlooks a tranquil lake and is only a short distance from Royal Turnbridge Wells, which is bustling with culture, bars restaurants and shops.
The listing states: “The log cabin is a very quiet peaceful area with just us for nearby neighbours.
“There is a lovely private screened decking area overlooking the lake for your sole use.
“The decking is south facing and a real sun trap, sit back, relax and enjoy the views of the lake and watch the hustle and bustle of the wildlife outside.”
